This document summarizes a home renovation project carried out by the Dominican Starfish Foundation for a family in need. Elvis and Julia were living in dire conditions with their son and Julia's two brothers. Toni ZoBell donated money from the sale of her property to fully fund the construction of a new home for the family after their existing home had collapsed. The foundation oversaw the building of the new home over the course of a year, which included laying the foundation, erecting walls, and adding a kitchen, living area, bedroom, and bathroom. When complete, the high-quality new home brought the family great joy and will change their lives forever.
2. Dominican Starfish Foundation Director, Louise ZoBell met
Elvis and Julia in March of 2014. She was walking through
the communities with Dominican Director, Amarilis Urena
taking pictures of families with great need. Elvis and Julia
certainly met that description.
Elvis is a carpenter. He builds the doors and windows for
homes in our foundation. This way he ekes out an
existence for his wife, two brothers-in-law and his small
son.
8. In January 2014, Toni ZoBell visited the Dominican Republic
and participated in many humanitarian activities. Here she
is picture sorting clothes for the distribution center. After her
experience she went back to Lethbridge, Alberta. She then
went to Nicaragua and sold her retirement property and
donated the money to build a home for a family in the
Dominican Republic. Elvis and Julia were chosen to be
recipients of this wonderful blessing in their lives.
9. They were overcome with emotion
when they heard that they had a
sponsor so that they would have a
new home.
