The document discusses the five dimensions of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) which are culture, environment, language, content, and learning. It explains that these dimensions are taught together through CLIL to help students see the usefulness of learning a foreign language in real contexts. Some advantages of CLIL mentioned are introducing wider cultural context, acquiring language naturally, improving language competence, and increasing student motivation.
This PowerPoint helps students to consider the concept of infinity.

Practical 12 on CLIL
1) There are five dimensions of CLIL related to:
❏ Culture
❏ Environment
❏ Language
❏ Content
❏ Learning
They do not act in isolation, the five dimensions are taught in combination so students can
see the usefulness of the object of learning as the foreign language builds on contents
related to the rest of the school curriculum. Doing this, English is learnt in real contexts as
opposed to artificial situations, it is viewed as authentic.
2)
The culture dimension: it focuses on building intercultural knowledge and understanding.
Also, it helps to develop intercultural communication skills and learn about neighbouring
countries, regions or minority groups. Moreover, culture introduces students to a wider
cultural context.
The environment dimension: it prepares students for internalization, it gives access to
International Certification and enhance school profile.
The language dimension: CLIL projects help to improve overall target language
competence, to develop oral communication skills, to deepen awareness of both mother
tongue and target language. Besides, this dimension develop plurilingual interests and
attitudes and introduce a target language.
The content dimension: it provides opportunities to study contents through different
perspectives, it gives access to subject-specific target language terminology and it prepares
students for studies and/or working life.
The learning dimension: it helps learners to complement individual learning strategies,
diversify methods and forms of classroom practice and increase student motivation.

3) The advantages of CLIL
CLIL helps to:
● Introduce the wider cultural context.
● Acquire language in natural ways.
● Learn a language in context, not in isolation.
● Prepare for internationalisation.
● Access International Certification and enhance the school profile.
● Cater different learning styles trough project work, and task-based projects
where cooperation and collaboration will be needed to solve the problems
presented.
● Improve overall and specific language competence.
● Develop multilingual interests and attitudes.
● Enhance student’s thinking processes as they will be provided with situations
in which the learning of another subject could be more successful.
● Increase learner motivation.
4) In a CLIL lesson, students will learn different subjects through the medium of a target
language. It can be defined as dual-focused education because working with CLIL has two
main aims, one related to a particular topic and one linked to the foreign language.Students
will learn by doing, helped by exposure or interaction with expert adults (scaffolding). To
achieve it successfully, teachers can use techniques such as visual aids, brainstorming
sessions, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) that will allow the students to
classify, categorize or summarize the information provided.
Using CLIL in the classroom aims at giving students the learning styles and strategies that
may help them to develop intercultural knowledge and language awareness. These tools are
useful to interact in a multilingual world, where diversity of languages make English as a
lingua franca a necessary means to interact in a globalized world.
