Wolf Alice is an indie rock band similar in genre to Digipak's band. Both bands have strong female leads and eclectic music videos. Wolf Alice's first album "My Love is Cool" features an unknown man shaking off water or glitter, photographed on film to look grainy. Their second album "Visions of a Life" depicts the lead singer's relative with an animal skull, also photographed on film for a vintage look. It is common for indie artists like Wolf Alice, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and others to use artistic imagery rather than personal photos on their album covers to focus on the music.
2. A band who follow a
similar genre of music
are Wolf Alice – despite
not having Western/old
Hollywood themes like
our band does, both
bands can be considered
as fitting into the indie-
rock genre. Both our
band and Wolf Alice have
strong female leads and a
very eclectic feel
throughout their music
videos.
3. My Love is Cool – Album cover
My Love is Cool is Wolf Alice’s debut
album, released in 2015.
It features a photo of an unknown man
seemingly shaking off water, although
the first thought upon seeing the
image is that it looks more like glitter,
giving it an almost “magic” look.
Although this is Wolf Alice’s debut
album, they chose not to show any of
their faces, which is very common with
indie artists. This image is clearly
taken on a film camera, as shown by
the graininess and soft/low-quality
feel.
4. Visions of a Life – Album cover
Visions of a Life is Wolf Alice’s second
album, released in late 2017. The front
cover depicts the lead singer’s relative
posed next to an animal skull in a
garden – there is no context for the
photo, which gives the image an air of
mystery. Additionally, like their first
album cover, it is clearly taken on a
film camera, giving it the same
graininess and vintage look we have in
all the images on our digipak. There are
also some flashes of colour, with the
sunlight creating reflections similar to
the kaleidoscopic effect on two of our
photos.
5. Indie-rock album digipaks
It is very common for indie/alternative artists to choose a piece of artwork or
image for the front of their album, as shown by bands such as Catfish and
the Bottlemen, Syd Matters, Grimes and Glass Animals. This is often
because the artists prefer to put the focus onto their music rather than their
personal image.
