Job interview - Work and Career

This is a work made in the 11th grade about all the steps leading to a job interview. All the dos and don'ts and advises to make your interview incredible and to wow the interviewer. We also did two mock interviews in which we pointed out how to make a good job interview and a not so good one. We created a fake product, a fake job, a fake company and we did a little play around that. PowerPoint available by requesting in a comment. The script of both is on the last pages. HENRY: I dunno, I’m young, I have some skills. I live here, in London with my two cats: Fluffy and Buttercup. They’re cute… But, that doesn’t matter. I’ve worked in McDonalds the last years. BOSS: Why did you live it? HENRY: Well, to be honest I had problems with my boss. She was always saying that I didn’t work or do anything but to tell you the truth she was kind of obnoxious and she kept eating all day, so I didn’t see her working either… But I’m not saying that I wasn’t working, I was the best there.(cell rings) Just a sec, hi Monica, I’m going to meet you after, just let me finish this things. Ok? Bye, bye. Ok,ok.. love you bye! Monica! I really pulled my weight around there. They were lucky for having me there. BOSS: But were you fired? HENRY: Tecnically yes, but… BOSS: Ok, ok… Why did you come here for this interview? HENRY: Because I didn’t have a job… BOSS: Yes, but, why do you want to work for us? HENRY: Oh, OK. Because…. I’ve been told that you pay well… BOSS: Is that all?
  60. HENRY: Of course not. Since I was little I dreamed to work in this company and I love your product the TicTecTor. BOSS: Tic-tac-ter…. HENRY: Right, that! What is this work all about, anyway? HENRY: Maybe you could take a look at my curriculum and see for yourself. There might be a lot of things that you will find quite interesting. BOSS: Things like skydiving… HENRY: Yes, but also… BOSS: Having two cats? HENRY: And… BOSS: Ok, ok, I got it. At last, where do you see yourself in five years? HENRY: In that seat, know what I mean? (wink) JK. I want to earn more money, be a billionaire, buy a new house, a new car, and I want to buy… BOSS: I mean with your career. HENRY: Of course you did. I don’t really know, to tell you the truth. I would like to be something better than just a door-to-door seller so I can put up to use my skills. BOSS: I guess that’s it, then… Do you have any question? HENRY: No, I’m starving; I’m going to grab something to lunch at Macdonald’s and my dad must be pissed from waiting for me.   61. 2nd Interview HENRY: Henry Gooseman, pleasure to meet you. BOSS: Weren’t you here minutes ago? HENRY: No… that was my twin brother. BOSS: Have a seat. Mr. Gooseman, thank you for coming in today. As you know, this is a job interview for door-to-door salesman and I’d like to ask you a few questions. HENRY: Certainly, sir. BOSS: So, tell me a bit about yourself. HENRY: I’m 23 years old, I studied at Oxford University, I majored in business and sales and I graduated with a 18.2 average. I’ve worked in one of the most successful restaurants in the world. BOSS: Was that your last job? HENRY: Yes, it was. I decided to leave because I want to have a career related to business, not cooking. BOSS: Why did you come here for this interview? HENRY: As I was saying, I always wanted to be a salesman, and I always loved the product, I’ve had it since I was 4 years old and I always admired the creator, HENRY Oliveira. I don’t know how just one person could have invented and developed the amazing tictacter. Did that answer to your question? BOSS: Yes. Now, do you know what this work is all about? HENRY: Yes, I’ll have to go door-to-door trying to sell tictacters to every family in UK. BOSS: That’s right. Very good. Let’s see your skills. Try to sell me this tictacter. HENRY: Could you erase that for me? BOSS: No, I don’t have an eraser right now. HENRY: That’s why you should buy this. But that’s not only. This is really a great product that is both a useful tool and a way you can have tons fun. The best product in the market. You just have to buy it now. BOSS: That was excellent. One of the best I’ve seen in a while, to tell you the truth. Tell me 3 strengths and 3 weaknesses of yours.
  62. HENRY: I consider myself a hard worker, a fast learner. Sometimes I can be too perfectionist and shy in personal life. People may think I’m a bit arrogant, when they don’ know me. But I also can be very persuasive. BOSS: Ok. If hired, how long do you expect to work for us? HENRY: I’d like to continue working in this company and eventually be promoted. BOSS: Just out of curiosity, what do you do in your spare time? HENRY: I have a great love for animals. I do volunteer at an animal shelter. I like golf. BOSS: Really? What a coincidence. We have to schedule a day out in the court then, because I also like it. Ok, I guess we’re done. Do you have any questions? HENRY: I actually do have one. I’ve read that the company will open 25 more branch offices. Is that true? BOSS: Maybe yes, maybe no. You know how the media is but I will let you know if I have a confirmation.
