AT&T Michigan Tech MIND TREKKERS will be joining Northwestern Michigan College to conduct the first annual Science and Engineering Festival in Traverse City, Michigan on Tuesday May 3, 2011 on their campus. See how this combination of innovative hands-on STEM activities, local businesses/corporations, and post-secondary institutions will energy a community about the excitement of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

3. What is the mission of MIND TREKKERS? Focus on hands-on activities that bring the “WOW” of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to life for K-12 students
4. Where has MIND TREKKERS been in the last 12 months? U.S. Science and Engineering Festival – Washington D.C. (500,000 participants) National Boy Scout Jamboree – Ft. A.P. Hill, Virginia (42,000 participants)
5. Einstein Science Expo – Green Bay (3,000) Grand Rapids Griffins Score with Science (5,000) Cranbrook Science Institute Cub Scout Event (2,000) F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Regional Competition – Minneapolis (2,000)

7. What is the programs goal? Excite students and the community about innovative STEM learning by experiencing it Allow student to speak with STEM professionals Allow students to explore their post-high school options Illustrate the importance of STEM education to the community
8. What are the components of the event 1. Numerous engaging hands-on STEM based activities Conducted by Undergrad/grad students and faculty from both Michigan Tech and Northwestern Michigan College Each activity takes between 30 seconds and 3 minutes to complete Goal is for students to learn the science behind the mystery

Local businesses/manufactures/corporations set up tables to describe their operations/what they produce Professionals in STEM related fields at tables describing what they do May have activities or products they produce that students can touch and discuss how they are made or services they produce
10. 3. Colleges, Universities, and other post-secondary programs would man tables at event Purpose Answer questions about preparing for college, major available, what classes would they take, etc.
11. What do we need? Local Businesses to participate as described Organizations to provide additional STEM related activities or volunteer to help with existing MIND TREKKERS activities
12. Donations to support the event: Provide each participant a backpack to collect information and to keep to remind them about the excitement of discovering the science behind the mystery! Will also have sponsor logos Cover event costs such as table rental Costs of materials for hands-on activities
