1. KEY CONCEPTS & LEARNING ISSUES( u can find it in the TBL DOCUMENT AT THE
END):
1.Diet & fluoride level
2.Eruption times of deciduous & permanent teeth
3.Causes of premature eruption &delayed eruption
4.Causes of retained deciduous teeth
5.Non-bacterial loss of tooth structures-attrition, abrasion, erosion
6.Causes of teeth discoloration -
- extrinsic stains
- fluorosis
- tetracycline
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Main points: (What dr.kawthar said in class same as the issuse but some additional
things)
1)Caries related to diet “diet and fluoride level”
2) Fluorosis
3) Nursing or bottle feeding caries
4) Stains : intrinsic or Extrinsic “Causes of teeth discoloration”
5) Which parts are more likely to develop caries
6) Development of teeth
7) Eruption times of deciduous & permanent teeth
8) Causes of premature eruption &delayed eruption
9) Causes of retained deciduous teeth
10) Non-bacterial loss of tooth structures-attrition, abrasion, erosion
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Extra Notes: (dr.kawthar's explaination to the points)
1) If a 15 year child is exposed to more fluoride , it won’t affect the tooth because the tooth is
already matured , but it has an effect if given during the development phase which is 18
months to 4 years
2) The least cariogenic compared to all teeth is the palatal aspect of anterior teeth
3) A child fed with the mother milk is cariogenic if its prolonged and undemined
4) Stains : intrinsic “ due to fluorosis, antibiotic (tetracycline) and iron” Extrinsic “coffee and soft
drinks”
5) Brown stains: brown and white” crumply not smooth” à mottled appearance due to severe
fluorosis
6) Most cariogenic areas: interproximal + pits and fissures
7) Dental lobes used for indirect vision and magnified images
