  1. 1. For this presentation we will be looking into coffee’s effects on our health mentally, physically and socially and whether or not these effects are beneficial to our well being. We will also be looking at coffee alternatives, and how coffee is made.
  2. 2. ➟ Coffee’s main purpose is as a primary trading commodity, one which is globally in demand for consumption. ➟ Coffee is the world’s leading beverage and is consumed on a daily basis by over 2./3’s of the world’s population. ➟ This popular beverage contains caffeine which is a stimulant or drug which influences the chemicals associated with sleep.

Howit EffectsTheBrain ➟ The energy boost comes from the receptors binding with the caffeine rather than the adenosine. ➟ Because of this we gain an energy boost 5 minutes later. ➟ This energy boost also gives you a stronger ability to focus. Coffee affects the brain in many ways, mostly regarding our energy levels.
  4. 4. ➟ Coffee is one of the most commonly consumed beverages. ➟ The caffeine in this coffee is the most widely used substance on the planet. ➟ Coffee is often used for an energy boost and some people drink it just because it tastes good. ➟ Coffee has many health benefits, some of which have been discovered within the last 10 years.
  5. 5. ➟ Coffee has been proven to improve your memory. ➟ Research done by the John Hopkins University has proven that a 200mg caffeine pill boosts memory solidification.
  6. 6. ➟ Studies have shown that coffee consumption can protect against Parkinson's disease, type 2 diabetes and liver diseases. ➟ This includes liver cancer.
  7. 7. ➟ Consuming a combination of caffeine and carbs has been proven to help with weight loss. ➟ Caffeine has also been proven to help relieve workout pains by 48%.
  8. 8. ➟ Research has show that coffee drinkers are less likely to commit suicide. ➟ The science behind this is that caffeine increases dopamine, a chemical in the brain which helps prevent depression.
  9. 9. Some temporary effects of coffee are: ➟ Nervousness ➟ Restlessness ➟ Irritability ➟ Stomach lurching ➟ Rapid heartbeat ➟ Muscle tremors. If you’re not shaking you need another cup!

Coffee’s effects on pregnant women: ➟ Australian Drug Organisation ➟ Food Standards agency ➟ limit their coffee intake to 200 mg Children Will Suffer From Caffeine Withdrawal Symptoms Such As: ➟ Headache ➟ Sleepiness ➟ Short Tempers ➟ lethargy- being interested in a number of activities or being too lazy and unmotivated. ➟ Depression
  11. 11. ➟ A diuretic is drug or substance consumed to increased the passing of urine.. ➟ People usually consume diuretic’s if they’re having trouble with urination ➟ Coffee is a liquid and a diuretic Pros: ➟ Helps you pee if not peeing is an issue you’re having Cons: ➟ if you drink coffee because it’s coffee and not because it’s a diuretic then you may find yourself needing to pee a lot. ➟ Side effects of diuretics are diarrhoea, vomiting and heart attacks.
  12. 12. ➟ Coffee is the most traded product in the world second to oil ➟ 56% of adults in the USA drink coffee on a daily basis ➟ 33% of coffee is produced in Brazil ➟ 65% of coffee is consumed in the morning, during breakfast hours ➟ Black coffee is preferred by 35% of the worlds coffee drinkers. ➟ Indonesia brews the most expensive coffee in the world called ‘Kopi Luwak’ ➟ In the USA the 29th of December is National Coffee Day. ➟ In Turkey it’s approved by the law for a woman to file a divorce if her husband idoesn’t supply her with her daily quota of coffee.
  13. 13. After seeing both the negative and positive effects of coffee you might be a little but unsure on whether or not it’s a good product. So here are some coffee alternatives: ➟ Hot Chocolate, for if you only drink coffee because its a warm beverage. ➟ Green tea, for if you need the caffeine but in smaller quantities. ➟ Decaf, for if you like coffee’s flavour minus the caffeine.

Coffee is a positive health product because: ➟ Many nations around the world consume billions of cups of coffee a year. ➟ Over 40% of Australians ingest 2.1 billion cups of coffee per month. ➟ Recent studies have confirmed that the benefits of coffee include type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, liver cancer and various other liver diseases. ➟ Men and women who drink 6 cups a day reduces their chances of type 3 diabetes from 30-54% Men- 54% Women - 30%
