 To study and gather knowledge on technologies of
production of electrical energy by using the excess
heat of an IC engine.
 To get well known with the Thermo-electric
Generator.
The “energy crisis” has become the major challenge for the
present humanity and mankind .According to the law of
conservation of energy it is known that energy can only be
transformed or be transmitted ,neither be created nor
destroyed .So far while transforming energy there is nothing
but a little or huge loss ,so called waste of energy .The main
purpose of this presentation is to utilize the waste heat
energy of an IC engine into Electrical energy.
 IC engine.
 Thermo-electric Generator.
 Resistive load.
 Support structure.
 It is a device that can produce voltage between two different
junction when there is applied a temperature difference .
 It works on the procedure of “seebeck effect” .The voltage
that is produced is called the “seebeck voltage”.
Basic structure of TEG
The Seebeck Effect is the conversion of temperature
differences directly into electricity. It is a classic example of
an electromotive force (emf) and leads to measurable currents
or voltages in the same w In general the Seebeck effect is
described locally by the creation of an electromotive field.
Eemf = -S ΔT
Where S is the Seebeck coefficient (also known as thermo-
power), a property of the local material, and ΔT is the
gradient in temperature T. ay as any other emf.
 During the expansion stroke of an IC engine there
develops a huge amount of temperature in the
engine cylinder.
 The exhaust gas carries away the excess heat
.Moreover water jacket is used to cool down the
cylinder
 This excess heat can be collected by heat
exchanger and this can be used as a heat source
for a TEG.
 This heat source is connected to heat sink by p-
type and n-type semiconductor.
 If the two semiconductor are
connected by two wire to a resistive
load ,there we will gain a voltage
difference.
 Waste heat recovery from an IC engine.
 Efficiency can be increased by using the same
amount of fuel.
 Easy to construct.
 Less skilled labour required to maintain the device.
 Fluctuation of power.
 TEG can only be used during the working period of
the IC engine.
By using TEG the waste heat can be utilized
.Advanced technology of the production of
electrical energy has been studied .It can bring a
revolutionary change in the energy technology.

  • 3.  To study and gather knowledge on technologies of production of electrical energy by using the excess heat of an IC engine.  To get well known with the Thermo-electric Generator.
  • 4. The “energy crisis” has become the major challenge for the present humanity and mankind .According to the law of conservation of energy it is known that energy can only be transformed or be transmitted ,neither be created nor destroyed .So far while transforming energy there is nothing but a little or huge loss ,so called waste of energy .The main purpose of this presentation is to utilize the waste heat energy of an IC engine into Electrical energy.
  • 5.  IC engine.  Thermo-electric Generator.  Resistive load.  Support structure.
  • 6.  It is a device that can produce voltage between two different junction when there is applied a temperature difference .  It works on the procedure of “seebeck effect” .The voltage that is produced is called the “seebeck voltage”. Basic structure of TEG
  • 7. The Seebeck Effect is the conversion of temperature differences directly into electricity. It is a classic example of an electromotive force (emf) and leads to measurable currents or voltages in the same w In general the Seebeck effect is described locally by the creation of an electromotive field. Eemf = -S ΔT Where S is the Seebeck coefficient (also known as thermo- power), a property of the local material, and ΔT is the gradient in temperature T. ay as any other emf.

  • 9.  During the expansion stroke of an IC engine there develops a huge amount of temperature in the engine cylinder.  The exhaust gas carries away the excess heat .Moreover water jacket is used to cool down the cylinder
  • 10.  This excess heat can be collected by heat exchanger and this can be used as a heat source for a TEG.  This heat source is connected to heat sink by p- type and n-type semiconductor.  If the two semiconductor are connected by two wire to a resistive load ,there we will gain a voltage difference.
  • 11.  Waste heat recovery from an IC engine.  Efficiency can be increased by using the same amount of fuel.  Easy to construct.  Less skilled labour required to maintain the device.
  • 12.  Fluctuation of power.  TEG can only be used during the working period of the IC engine.
  • 13. By using TEG the waste heat can be utilized .Advanced technology of the production of electrical energy has been studied .It can bring a revolutionary change in the energy technology.
