  2. 2. 2 I. Introduction to SSI SSI Securities Joint Stock Company, also known as SSI-HOSE, was established in 1999. With more than 20 years of experience in securities investment activities, the company has built a reputation that attracts millions of investors throughout the world. The whole country trusts and chooses. With a wide range of products and services and the best user support policy, SSI has become the leading investment choice in the Vietnamese market. In May 2021, at the end of the trading session, SSI became the first and only securities company at the moment with a market capitalization exceeding millions to billions of dollars-specifically, 1.07 billion dollars. With equity capital of 9,010.468,000,000 VND and nearly 500 million shares being circulated on the market, the development potential of SSI is even greater in the coming time. According to the report of the first quarter of 2021, the company recorded a profit growth of VND 528.2 billion, up 34 times compared to the same period in 2020. The second quarter of 2021 reached VND 703.5 billion. With more than 1000 employees at 14 branches spread across the country, SSI is a reputable and excellent quality unit that investors should refer to to participate in securities trading. SSI-HOSE is a prestigious choice for many domestic and international organizations and individuals. Some prominent customers who have been participating at SSI can be mentioned as: Vinamilk, Vietinbank, HSBC, Petrolimex, Credit Suisse, BIDV, Vietjet Air, Vincom Retail, TP Bank, VIB, Prudential VN, Hoang Anh Gia Hybrid,… II. Account opening contract and related documents There are 2 ways for you to open an investment account on SSI: Open directly at the counter or online on SSI's website. With the first method, customers bring their identity cards or identity cards to the nearest SSI headquarters. Note that SSI's working time is from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 11:30 am and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the afternoon.
  3. 3. 3 To open a securities account at SSI, investors need to provide basic information, including: - Valid ID card according to regulations - Investors must be at least 18 years old - Computer or phone with a camera. To ensure the eKYC identity verification step. - Mobile phone to receive OTP verification code Currently, SSI provides two main forms of opening securities accounts: opening directly at the counter or opening an online securities account. Depending on their needs, each person can choose for themselves the most suitable method: open a real account or open a demo account. Opening an account is free for everyone, but other services like SMS and advance payment for securities sales have to be paid for. Opening a securities account SSI Online is one of the most popular methods chosen by many customers in recent times. Not only appreciated for its convenience, the process of opening a new account at SSI is also very simple. In just five basic steps, you have successfully opened yourself a securities account and can quickly invest. Here are five steps to open an SSI account on your own: Step 1: Register to open an account - You access the SSI Website to open a related securities account.
  4. 4. 4 Step 2: The same level of personal information is required At this step, you need to specify the type of account to register. As mentioned above, in the content of this article, Oh Money only guides how to open an SSI securities account for individual customers. - Select the type of account to register - Provide photo ID One of the differences between the SSI stock exchange and others is that the photo ID must be taken directly during the registration process. For some common stock exchanges, at this step, investors only need to update the image they have prepared. The system will automatically extract information from documents. Customers can check and add personal information if necessary.
  5. 5. 5 - Face authentication
  6. 6. 6 - Additional personal information Step 3: Enroll in the basic service After completing the order and providing all the relevant information, you need to register for the basic customer care services that SSI provides. Note: You must have at least one linked bank account to transfer money.
  7. 7. 7 Step 4: Execute the contract Carefully read the contract terms and conditions, then download the signature photo, write your full name, and click "Submit" to submit a request to open an online securities account. The system will automatically send the OTP code and authentication link via the declared phone number and email. At this point, enter the OTP code and click the verification link in the email to complete the registration. Customers will receive an email with their account number and online trading system login information in just a few minutes. Deposits can be started for trading on the same day. - Sign the contract - OTP Authentication
  8. 8. 8 - Sign Up Successfully In general, the process of opening an online security account at the exchange is quite simple, but there are still many shortcomings. Accordingly, when opening an online securities account, investors do not need to verify the digital signature. This does not guarantee the security of the transaction. In addition, even though they are registered online, investors still need to add paper documents as required. III. Vietnam’s financial market and its impact on securities exchange The stock market of Vietnam in the first 3 quarters has been plummeting in both price and liquidity. Many stock codes have been decreased to their face value, some even lower than the starting price. The reason for the sharp decline in the stock market in Vietnam can be attributed to both international and domestic factors. Internationally, the US inflation index’s increase makes the whole world’s markets fluctuate. Specifically, the CPI in the US in August 2022 continues to maintain high level, up to 8.3% over the same period last year. The FED must continuously raise interest rates to bring money
  9. 9. 9 back, a direct impact causing cash flow to domestic and foreign stocks to decrease. Moreover, the energy crisis is due to the conflict between the EU and Russia in Ukraine, which has led to economic instability and inflation in the EU. The strong movement of the world’s financial markets has resulted in a continous decrease in domestic stock prices. Even though some domestic enterprises as well as FDI enterprises are prosperous and profitable; their securities prices have decreased sharply. Belief in a brighter future for the stock market by many investors has fallen. In the VN30 group, only Petrolimex had a slight increase and Sabeco remained stable, the rest all decreased. Many shares dropped sharply, such as Masan, BIDV, Mobile World, Vinhomes, Vincom Retail, ...
  10. 10. 10 As the chart below describes, in the first 6 months of 2022, the water and gas supply industries had the best operation. Water and gas (+15.7% compared to the start of the year), retail (+3.2% compared to the start of the year), IT (+2.7% compared to the start of the year), and beverage (+1.6% compared to the start of the year) are the only four industries to show positive growth in the first six months of the year. Notably, securities had the worst development in the first half of 2022, recording a decline of 48.9% compared to the beginning of the year, resulting in weakened liquidity compared to the previous month. All other industries have decreased since the beginning of the year. In particular, some industries have worse efficiency than the VN-Index, such as telecommunications (-22.7%), real estate (-28%), construction (-36.7%), cars (-36.8%) and steel (-40.4%). Other market leaders include PNJ (+27% compared to the start of the year), VHC (49% compared to the start of the year), SAB (+4% compared to the start of the year), VSH (+56% compared to the start of the year), and ANV (+71% compared to the start of the year). Most recently, stocks on all three stock exchanges continued to drop sharply at the beginning of September and lost 27%. According to ACBS, Vietnam's stock market is the cheapest one in
  11. 11. 11 the ASEAN area. On the morning of October 3, most stocks on HOSE, HNX and UPCOM dropped sharply. The VN-Index decreased nearly 27 points to the threshold of 1,105 points, 27% lower than the peak recorded in early April 2022. Liquidity in the market was lost. In the whole morning session on October 3, only 4,500 billion VND of stock value was transferred on all 3 stock exchanges, about 25-30% compared to the busy periods in 2021 and early 2022. In the closing session of October 3, the VN-Index fell 45.67 points to 1,086.44 points. This is the lowest level in the past 20 months. Many big companies, such as BIDV Bank (BID), Hoa Phat Group (HPG), Bao Viet (BVH), VietinBank (CTG), Vietnam Rubber Group (GVR), Khang Dien ( KDH), Mobile World (MWG), Petroleum Electricity (POW), SSI Securities (SSI), Sacombank (STB) and Techcombank (TCB), have recorded decreases. IV. The investment process and result 4.1. Investing procedure After a detailed analysis of the Vietnamese financial market in general and the stock market in particular, we decided to start investing through one of the most popular virtual stock exchange platforms – iWin SSI. Iwin SSI is Vietnam's first emulation stock exchange platform that is diversely integrated of both underlying and derivative security. My group decided to choose a virtual investment platform to practice stock investing because of the convenience and high applicability of the iWin SSI. Due to the characteristics of our investment process, which is low budget and short-term investment, our team decided to choose iWin. The process of opening a virtual account on iWin is also very quick and simple. We only need a valid email address to sign up an account. Two days after opening an account, the platform will provide each account holder with an initial virtual capital of 1 billion VND, and investors can start investing immediately. Basically, iWin simulates exactly the same steps of placing buy/sell orders, reference prices, or securities volume as in the real securities market. The investment process took place from September 26, 2022. Our group opened an account on September 24, 2022, and after two days, we received 1 billion VND in the account. We proceeded to buy some stock immediately on September 26. Specifically, our group placed an
  12. 12. 12 order to buy four stocks. At 9:44: bought 100 shares of BVH at 38,500 VND/share; at 9:48: bought 100 shares of SSI at 20,100 VND/share; at 9:52: bought 100 shares of SSI at 20,200 VND/share; at 9:55: bought 100 VNM shares at 76,000 VND/share; and finally, at 10:34: bought 100 VCB shares at 75,900 VND/share. The total number of codes purchased on September 26 is 4, and five orders have been successfully executed. The recorded total investing capital is 23,070,000 VND at the end of September 26. Transaction history documentation
  13. 13. 13 Only one day after the investment, our group recorded that all four stocks had a slight decrease. Specifically, SSI lost the most with -3.23%, followed by VNM -2.63%, VCB -1.19% and BVH -0.69%. Associated with the national stock market situation at that time, it is not difficult to explain this decline, as SSI has continuously recorded a decrease in recent months. We based our decision on the situation of the financial market in Vietnam at that time to buy these four codes. As per the market analysis above, the stock market recorded a sharp decline continuously in the first 6 months of this year, which is also the reason why SSI's stock decreased the most among the four stocks. Although the stock market was not very optimistic, the banking, insurance and food industries made a remarkable progress. Vietcombank is one of Vietnam's Big4 banks, with excellent business and operational efficiency; the Bao Viet insurance company is also well-known; and milk is considered a daily necessity. That's why we choose to invest in the above four types of stocks. After nearly a week of monitoring the stock market, on October 3, our group decided to sell some stocks and buy some other stocks at the same time. Specifically, our group sold two codes: 9:19 - sold 100 BVH shares at 53,800 VND/share; 10:07 - sold 100 VNM shares at 72,300 VND/share. So we sold BHV at a price equal to the purchase price, and we sold VNM at a lower price than the purchase price of 3,700 VND/share. Seeing that the stock situation of BHV and VNM had been unstable in the past few days, we decided to sell before these two stocks dropped further. Besides, we decided to buy five new stocks: 9:15 - bought 100 shares of POW at a price
  14. 14. 14 of 12,350 VND/share; 9:22 - purchased 100 HVN shares at a price of 13,250 VND/share; 9:25 - purchased 100 MSN shares at a price of 98,000 VND/share; 9:34 - purchased 100 AMV shares at a price of 6,300 VND/share; and 9:35 - purchased 100 DBD shares at a price of 41,100 VND/share. At the end of October 3, VCB shares recorded a loss of -6.06%, but in the market, VCB shares recorded a positive change of +0.99%.
  15. 15. 15 On October 4, we decided to sell 200 SSI shares at a price of 18,900 VND/share, cheaper than the purchase price of 1,300 VND/share, and buy 300 shares of AAA at a price of 9,200 VND/share. And this is the record about the profit or loss of each share on October 4: 4.2. Investment result
  16. 16. 16 Until 19:30 on October 4, the most profitable stock was AMV, and the gross profit of our group was negative 0.28%. In conclusion, from September 26 to October 4, our group lost 2,769,641 VND in total. Net equity decreased from 1 billion VND to an approximately 997 million VND, and the amount of floating loss was -460,000 VND. V. Conclusion To conclude, although the process of investing in securities is short, we have gained a lot of experience. Because it was the first time we was exposed to stock investing and learned about the stock market, the initial investment was a bit difficult and confusing. However, the later, the more we learn from our losses. The experience is very useful because it provides practical experience for the stock market subject, helping us better understand how the stock market works and the factors that affect it. From there, we also draw experience in analyzing the market, analyzing a company's financial position, or even predicting market trends. Overall, this is a necessary experience for not only students majoring in the stock market module but also all students of economics.
