3. INTRODUCTION
What is Mathematics ?
Mathematics is an old, broad and deep
discipline (field of study). People working to
improve math education need to understand
”What is Mathematics?” 1 The roots of
mathematics go back much more than 5,000
years. 2 Humans have faced the need to
measure and communicate about time,
quantity, and distance. Then they developed
mathematics.
4. CORRELATION OF MATHEMATICS
WITH OTHER SUBJECTS
What is correlation ?
“ Correlation ” in simplest form is “ connect ”
or “ to be connected ”.
Correlation means mutual relation of two or
more subjects.
5. PHYSICAL SCIENCE
Physical science without mathematics is totally
meaningless.
Chemical reactions, scientific theories of physical
science and detail of elements are only counted with the
help of mathematics.
All laws and principle of physics are expressed as
equations and formula using mathematical language
and symbols.
6. BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE
Mathematical and theoretical biology is an
interdisciplinary scientific research field with a
range of applications. The field is sometimes
called mathematical biology or bio-
mathematics.
7. ENGINEERING
An Engineer can be a good and successful engineer,
only if he is good in mathematics.
Mathematics form a stable base to for all en
Engineering deals with surveying, levelling, designing,
estimating, construction etc. In all these process,
application of mathematics is very important. gineering
courses.
8. SOCIAL SCIENCE
History, geography, economics and all the
social sciences subjects are also correlated to
mathematics.
Mathematics helps in calculating the dates
and days of various historical events and
predicting the future based on the past events.
9. GEOGRAPHY
In geography, mathematics helps in drawing
the maps to the scale, locating that place and
estimating the distance between different
places.
10. LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
Language is the vehicle for communications
and mathematics can not be learned without
the use of language.
Mathematics helps the students to learn the
language with clarity and exactness.
Certain mathematical concepts specially
abstract concepts can be learned only in the
form of verbal statement known as definitions.
11. ART AND ARCHITECTURE
Mathematics is a knowledge of truth and
realities.
Only mathematical mind can appreciate
beautiful piece of architecture with some
sense of confidence.
Appreciation of rhythm, proportion, balance,
and symmetry postulates a mathematical
mind.
12. PSYCHOLOGY
Experimental educational psychology has
become highly mathematical due to its
concern with such factors as intelligence
quotient, standard deviation, mean, median,
mode, correlation coefficients and probable
errors.
Statistical analysis is the only reliable method
of attacking social and psychological
phenomena.
13. ASTRONOMY
Astronomers use mathematics all over time.
All laws of astronomy, majority of them
understood by mathematical concept.
Mathematics provides a basis of find out the
distance between planets, number of stars in
galaxy, numbers of planets and their satellite
etc.
