TheStephenZuellig GraduateSchoolof Development
Management(SZGSDM)istheAsianInstituteofManagement’s
responsetothechallengeofsustainingAsiandevelopment. The
missionofSZGSDMistomoldstudentsintothenextgenerationof
developmentleadersandagentsofchangeintheirrespective
countriesandorganizations.
ManagementeducationattheSZGSDMmeansdevelopingAsian
managerswhoexcelinthedisciplineofmanagementwithina
developmentcontext.
Towardsthisend,theSchool’s globaloutlookisreflectedtodayin
thenumberofnationalitiesthathavejoineditsvariousdegreeand

PROJECT AND PROCUREMENT MANAGEMENT
COURSE (PPMC)
This2-weekcourseisforprocurementspecialists,membersofprojectimplementation teams
fundedbynationalandinternationaldonors,andstaffresponsibleformakingprocurement
decisionsandimplementingprojects. Itdevelopsparticipants’knowledgeandskillsinthe
procurementofgoodsandservices,andintroducesthemtoprocurementpoliciesandguidelines
ofdonoragencies. Thecourseisdividedintotwomodules. Thefirstweekconsistsoffivedays
trainingonProjectDesignandManagementfollowedbyfivedaystrainingonProcurement
Managementinweek2.
Module1: ProjectDesignandManagementfocusesontheconcepts,skillsand
techniquesneededtodesignandmanageprojectswiththeaimofmanagingprojectresourcesfor
resultsandachievingdevelopmentobjectivesinasustainablemanner. Projectimplementation
andprocurementcannotbediscussedmeaningfullywithoutagoodunderstandingofproject
designandpreparation. Module1providesanessentialbackgroundtoweek2learnings.
Module2: ProcurementManagementexposestheparticipantstotheoperational
policiesandproceduresofdonorandnational agenciesonprocurement. TheCourseisbasedon
theprocurementguidelinesofinternationallendinginstitutionsandwillfocusonnewtrendsin
procurementmanagement. Soundprocurementmanagementservesasthefoundationfor
essentiallogisticalsupportneededtomanageandimplementprojectsefficientlyandeffectively.
Italsoprovidesaccountabilitymechanismsthatfundsarebeingusedefficientlyandforthepur-
posesintended.
PROGRAMOBJECTIVES
Tobroadenanddeepenparticipants’abilitytodesignprojectsandprocurementmanagementfor
thesuccessfulimplementationof projects.
COURSEMETHODOLOGY
ThecoursewillbedeliveredbyexperiencedFacultyandwouldincludeformalpresentations,case
studiesandexercises. FacilitatorsandresourcepersonsincludeAIMFaculty,WorldBankstaffand
seniorconsultantsengagedinprocurement.
PARTICIPANTS
ThePPMCishighlyrelevantforprofessionalstaffofprojectteamsfundedbynationalandinterna-
tional agencies, procurement specialists, as well as high-level staff responsible for making policy
decisionsand those in-chargeofimplementingprojects. Thecourse isalso intended for staff of
donor agencies including multilateral and bilateral organizations, and private sector contractors,
suppliersandconsultants. Thecourseispractitioner-orientedwithemphasisonhands-ontraining.
Morethan1,000participants fromtheAsia-PacificRegionandAfricahaveattendedthiscourse
overthepast15years.
