Maria Davies is a real estate professional with experience in both local and global markets. She was born and raised in Europe but also lived in Grenada for four years, where her son was born. Grenada was originally discovered by Columbus in 1498 and alternated between French and British rule until becoming a British colony in 1783. It gained independence in 1974. Real estate is a major industry, with high ownership rates and many foreign investors, especially along the southern coast near the university. Grenadian culture is a blend of African, European and East Indian influences.

5. Slavery in Grenada
While Grenada was a plantation slave society from
the late 17th Century to the middle of the 19th
Century, the slave laws were based on the much
more liberal and humane Spanish Slave Laws.
The lasting legacy is that generally there is little to no
racial tension on the Island.
People are not judged by color, but instead by family
history.
Different cultural/societal structure in place. Less
hierarchy and cultural rigidity.
