To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to express in interest in returning to the Chicago area as a Special Education
Teacher. I accepted a position at Bloomington (IN) North High School last fall because it is where I
wanted to retire. However, a critical illness in the family and my being the closest living relative
compels me to return to Chicago to assume responsibility for my uncle’s care.
My longtime experience in the ChicagoPublic Schools along with the timeI have spent at Bloomington
North High Schoolhave helpedme foster a learning environment that is mutually respectfuland friendly
but also adheres to meeting the required learning standards. My Master’s certifications are in Special
Educationand SocialStudies. Inan Inclusion setting, I have beena co-teacher inclasses that cover allfour
levels of English, alllevels of Mathematics instruction, allSocialStudies courses, and Biology. I taught a
varietyof SocialStudies subjects onmy ownat Roosevelt High SchoolinChicagoincluding,U.S. and World
History, Government, and FinancialLiteracy.
In my eleven years of teaching experience, I have worked diligentlywithstudents whohavelearning,
emotional, and behavioraldisabilities;students whocomefrom poverty level and broken homes; ELL
students who also have learning disabilities, and many immigrant students who have never had an
education. Witheach student,I have beenable to gauge their individualneeds and assess their preferred
and most successfullearning styles. I am very hands onwithmy students and develop a close and trusting
relationshipwitheach of them.
As my references willattest, I am a most dedicatedteacherwhogoes the extra mile for his students. I
work wellina collaborativeInclusionsetting withGeneralEducationteachers and the respectivechairmen
of academicdepartments along withthe SpecialEducationCase Manager and schooladministration. I do
not see Inclusionstudents as being my only students; instead, I look at an entire class as being my
responsibility. Additionally, I never feel my job ends whenI clock out. I volunteer to help withmany
schoolfunctions and fundraisers. I also believein developing a good working relationshipwith a student's
parents and maintaining constant contact with them. . The ultimate goalfor me is to always serve my
students to the best of my abilities.
I hope you will consider my application and documentation as being worthy of a teaching position.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Mark A. Ursa
