• Though I'm not interested in doing theatre at all, this is along course that
specialises more in film and television than the other one. On top of this I'll
have to re-do English if I get in (according to part of the University website.)
• I will also need a research proposal and a sample of my writing.

15. Introduction
Growing up, me and my family often went to the cinema,
allowing me to grow up with cinema, whilst also growing up
with a lot of Rohl Dhal books. But I'd also find myself wanting
to do creative things with my time, occasionally writing stories
or often theorising possible stories, though directing I hope to
achieve this professionally and actually bring these, amongst
other stories to life.
Despite spending three years figuring out and developing my
skills for directing in college, I feel like yet need further time to
develop this and potentially the addition of better
recourses/equipment that university could provide.
16. Academic History
In school, we offered three options (other than the compulsory maths,
English literature and language, with science,) then history or
geography, a creative subject and a more theory-based subject.
Though these limited choices being not so beneficial, being more
capable practically and creatively, leaving me to choose History, art and
computer science.
However, after leaving high school and moving onto college, I found
myself doing far better, starting on the level 2 creative media course
and working my way on to the level 3 course, achieving two
distinctions (as of writing this.) By studying the level 2 before the level
3, this would allow me some time to prepare to get the best I can out
of the level 3, whilst allowing me all 3 years to figure out and develop
my skills within directing, hopefully building up to this skills I aspire to
gain. College has also helped by pushing me to complete better
products, thorough the provided deadlines.
18. The Future
For a few years I've wanted to become a director of
film or tv - following the footsteps of people like
Edgar Wright or Wes Anderson, whilst most of my
life (as I can remember,) I've had the ambition of
telling my stories and entertaining an audience.
With university, I can finally be provided the time I
want to work on my skills, in a far more focussed
environment.
19. Outside College
Being very passionate towards directing in both film and TV, I'm often
dissecting films/tv series (usually following directors I admire, like the works
of Wes Anderson, Edgar Wright, Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino.)
In terms of work, I've currently holding down a job at morrisons in order to
make a bit of cash on the side and hopefully put towards equipment that will
help better the films I make.
All my life I've found myself loving stories and always wanting to grow up to
tell my own in one form or another, eventually leading to the present where
I'm aspiring heavily to be a director. I hope that going to university will help
bring me a lot closer to this dream, whilst helping me better my skills and
further my confidence in the subject. Unlike most people, I take this passion
into my own time (other than just analyzing and watching films,) with
planning for projects, thinking over potential ideas and further self-research
into the subject – to get a better idea of thing like lighting (using reflectors,
lights and diffusers,) sound, camera settings, lining up shots and lenses.
20. Conclusion
By going to university, I will be able to
progress my skills in directing, whilst allowing
me the further time I'd like to build up a
portfolio of crafted stories I'd like to tell,
hopefully allowing myself to become noticed
or potentially supporting to get
placement somewhere and work my way up in
the industry.
