2. WIRE BUTT WELDER KRITONICS Wire Butt Welders are highly precision and
elegantly designed automatic Upset Butt Welding
Machines. The Wire Butt Welders are portable models
mounted on wheeled trolley type stand with arrangement
offootpedaloperation.
The operation of the Butt welder is so
simple that even un-skilled personnel find it easy to get a
perfectweld.
CONSTRUCTION: Main body housing the welding
transformer and current controls, fixed & moveable
plattens are compactly constructed from aluminium
castings.
Moveable platten travels on precision
parallel guides ensuring almost frictionless movement and
perfectautomaticalignmentofwire.
A precision spring action on the
moveable platten provides forging pressure. It is set as per
size of the wire. By means of an adjustable calibrated dial
mountedonthefixedplatten.
Spring Loaded copper alloy clamps are of
precsion quick-acting design ensuring firm clamping of
wires.Eachclampsisreleasedbyindividualfootpedal.
Special wear-resisting copper alloy
electrodes with precision V-grooves for different wire sizes,
permitrapidandaccuratealignmentofwires.
Initialupsetgapisvariedasperdiameterofthe
wire, by the adjustment of a lever set against a calibrated
platemountedonthemoveableplatten.
Welding current is selected
depending upon wire size in 6 steps by a rotary switch
mountedonfront.
A manual push button fitted
on one side of the fixed platten initiates the current to start
the welding cycle. Automatic current make and break are
effectedviaamagneticcontactorincorporated.
In the automatic welding cycle
thecurrentgetscutoffatapre-setupsettingdistance.
Each machine is equipped
with a lamp for lighting the electrodes to ensure correct
alignment and proper overhang of wire ends from
electrodes.
Separate annealing electrodes are provided

6. GENERAL

Technology. Butt Welding is a most modern Resistance Welding process which ensures joint strength even 25% higher than the
parentmetal.

COMPACT : Sturdy in construction KRITONICS Bandsaw Blade Butt Welder is extremely compact, housing, Welding Transformer,
ControlDevices,Sliding&upsetpressurearrangements,automaticCut-Offetc.alltogetherwithinthewelder.
WELDING ACCURACY : Mounted with quick-action clamps, the fixed and the moveable jaws are perfectly aligned to ensure
automatic alignments of the jobs, which is so essential in modern production methods. The moveable jaw runs on precision ball
typeguidesalmostfrictionlesslyensuringalmostweldingaccuracy.
ANNEALING DEVICE : It is incorporated, with two heating positions, in the butt welder to normalize the brittlenes in the welded
zone.
OPERATION
The Bandsaw Blades or Wire ends are cut straight exactly at right angles and free of burrs on a special Shearing Attachment
optionally mounted on the machine, Welding Current, Upsetting Pressure and Upsetting Way are set as per chart provided on
frontplat,accordingtotheBlade/Wirewidth.TheBlade/Wireendsrigidlyclampedbyquick/actionclampsprovided.
Welding Current is started by depressing the upset-way switch to welding position. The two ends are heated up to forging
temperature in a few seconds and automatically upset (forged). At this instant the welding current switches off automatically,
completingtheautomaticweldingcycle.Thejobisde-clamped.
The upset-way switch is turned to annealing position thus automatically extending the jaw distance. The welded job is re-
clamped. By presing the Annealing switch to ‘Low’ or ‘High’ position, depending upon the size and material, the job is annealed. If
required,annealingprocesscanberepeatedseveraltimesdependinguponthejob.
OPTIONALS
SHEARINGATTACHMENT:Specialshearswitharrangementsformountingonthefrontofmachineareavailableatthecustomer’s
option,forcuttingofbandsawbladesexactlyatrightangles.
GRINDING ATTACHMENT : As an extra accessory the Grinding Attachment is also available mounted on the machine for removing
theweldingflash.
