Linda Art Cph hosted an exhibition and crochet workshop on January 21, 2017 in Vanløse Kulturstationen. The event featured a history wall on crochet and Victorian women's fashion, sewing and art displays, and a study table. Linda shared 12 crochet posters and examples of combining techniques like crochet, knitting and loom knitting. The workshop provided an opportunity for networking and sharing knowledge on hosting similar events. Linda aims to help women find balance and art through her work.

About Linda:
I grew up in a small town until the age of five.
Living in the countryside was really exciting.
I could walk a lot in the nature, have a lot of
animals and be creative.
I remember my grandmother and my great-
grandmother knitting nice hats, sweaters,
and vests for me. All their friends were also
always busy creating lovely handcraft
projects. When I was four, I forced my
grandma to show me how to knit and
crochet. Here started my creative life.

About the event:
1. History Wall
I prepared a wall, where the participants
could read about the History of crochet and
knitting in Danish and in English. The second
part of the wall was about Victorian women's
fashion. It presented the importance of
crochet technique in everyday dressing
culture.

About the event:
2. Sewing
I was 10 years old when I used a sewing
machine for the first time. My father showed
me how to fix the lenght of my trousers.
Later, in primary school, we studied to create
basic projects. I kept up my interest in
sewing continously. Around my early
twenties, I liked to make skirts. From my late
twenties, I prefer to create dresses. These
five dresses are from the last summer.

About the event:
3. Study Table
Art and Art History was always important for
me. I was a member of the drawing and art
group in primary school. In 2004, when I had
my high school or gymnasium final exam,
one of the main subjects was Drawing and
Art History.
It is very important to learn the history of the
technique before we start to create any
projects. This step helps the participant to
respect the effort needed to master a
technique.

About the event:
4. Crochet Posters
I like to recreate historical crochet patterns
and combine them with different art
techniques, like calligraphy and art nouveau
motifs.
I brought 12 Crochet Posters to the event
with different words. Six of them were
created after, in January 2017, I coached
international academics about LinkedIn. I
asked them to pick one word that symbolizes
success for them. Just like a Maori tattoo
artist, I tried to capture the essence of their
word.

About the event:
5. Techniqual Challenges
In the old times, it was popular to mix
different hand art techniques. I also combine
techniques quite often. During the workshop,
we went through the basics of how to
recognize the crochet, knitting, and loom
knitting parts of the final items, like these
scarfs.

About the event:
6. Networking & Know How
This event was an excellent opportunity to
help others who would like to create a
similar event in the future.
I could share my knowledge about how to
prepare for a workshop like this.
I spent several months to create the new
parts of the exhibition. I also highlighted the
science part of the event, in order to let the
participants to know the History of the
crochet technique and Victorian women's
fashion.

14. About crochet in Danish
indpas i Europa i 1700t.
eksemplarer.

16. About crochet in English
According to American crochet expert and world traveler Annie Potter, "The modem
art of true crochet as we know it today was developed during the 16th century. It
became known as 'crochet lace' in France and 'chain lace' in England." And, she tells
us, in 1916 Walter Edmund Roth visited descendants of the Guiana Indians and found
examples of true crochet.
Another writer/researcher, Lis Paludan of Denmark, who limited her search for the
origins of crochet to Europe, puts forth three interesting theories. One: Crochet
originated in Arabia, spread eastward to Tibet and westward to Spain, from where it
followed the Arab trade routes to other Mediterranean countries. Two: Earliest
evidence of crochet came from South America, where a primitive tribe was said to
have used crochet adornments in rites of puberty. Three: In China, early examples
were known of threedimensional dolls worked in crochet.
