Estibits is an AI cryptocurrency analyser
that focuses on all factors other than
the price fluctuation. It analyses
external data sources and scores
cryptocurrencies on merit, instead of
relaying only on the value.
Do you want your
crypto/blockchain product to
be used by more people?
Every revolutionary technology
is at first difficult to understand
for most potential users.
The problem
It reaches mostly tech-savvy
early adopters, who take pride in
overcoming the learning curve of
the technology.
The problem
2007
How it works
A great example in overcoming the learning curve was the
first iPhone, launched in 2007. It helped create a
completely new category of a device and changed the
world and our computing forever.
Revolutionary + Friendly
There were smartphones before, but they weren’t as
accessible, easy to use and powerful. The iPhone created
a completely new category of it’s own.
That sounds like a device reserved only for computer-smart
users, right?
The solution? We understand what we know.
To help new users feel more
at home with a technology
that is completely new, Apple
has made a very smart
decision to go with
Skeuomorphism - which is a
term for digitally immitating
real-world objects. Your
notes are on a leather bound
paper page, your books are
on a bookshelf and your
games are on a casino-like
green-linen table.
The concepts were new and
foreign, but the way they
were introduced felt familiar
right away. This in turn
helped non-tech users to get
in on the smartphone
revolution early.
Two main problems with
crypto adoption that can
be fixed with design
Chaotic, overcomplicated UI’s
and low quality design.
Hard to understand phrasing.
Chaotic, overcomplicated UI
Most exchanges now look like this. Very densely packed information, small fonts,
elements fighting for attention. Looks professional, but at the same time completely
inaccessible for a rookie investor. If someone just wanted to “try” investing in crypto’s in
most cases after seeing this he’ll abandon the process.
Good example
Coinbase is a good example of a UI that’s clear, simple, has plenty of whitespace and
can be understood by a newcomer.
Your product should simply have
a PRO user view and a beginner view.
And let the user switch when he’s ready, instead of forcing the PRO version on
him.
Other good ideas include test investing (without real money) and interactive
onboarding processes.
The same stock photos everywhere.
Similar overdesigned, blue-glow based graphs and coins
are used throughout the web to portray cryptos of all
shapes and sizes.
Visual nodes are literally on every other crypto website,
often animated, which means everyone uses the same
javascript code.
The model you chose to promote your brand also promotes
diet pills, shampoo, dental floss and swiss cheese. And as
people see the same set of people on a lot of websites it
lowers the trust in your brand.
Look familiar?
Low quality meme-like designs.
Here’s an example of BitcoinZ, a BTC and ZEC
mix that was innovating like crazy. They created
the first SMS payment gateway, the first real-life
payment terminal and more.
Due to extremely low quality advertising, that
looked like internet memes, nobody had believed
them. Other coins have already claimed the title
of being the first in those areas.
This is generally one of the biggest problems in
crypto. Memes may be close to “real people” but
at the same time they as far away from trust as
we can get. Being unprofessional is NOT cool.
Distorted vision
How to solve UI/UX problems?
How to solve the UX/UI problems?
Think about your entire brand from the start.
What is your message, colors, typography and
style? Create a consistent design system and
stick to it.
Make your product into a consistent, thought-out
thing instead of a mix and match of what others
do. Do your own thing and do it in the most
precise and detailed manner possible.
It is vital that this is done by a professional
designer, and not a marketing person. UX and UI
knowledge is what pushes your message beyond
the ordinary.
Hire a designer
How to solve the UX/UI problems?
Don’t use stock photography and cliché
“graphics” of Bitcoins floating in space over a
network of nodes. They give the message you
used the same cheap materials everyone uses
and people have already seen those visuals on
other websites.
This is one of the main factors impacting trust of
your brand.
Be original and professional and trust will follow.
Non-generic visuals
How to solve the UX/UI problems?
Don’t assume all your users are tech-savvy.
Make a pro and a beginner mode in your product
so people of all skillsets can use it. Limiting
yourself to a small set of users won’t help with
widespread adoption.

Buzzwords and technical specs are all good to
have. But when explaining what you do, try to
reach as many people as possible.
People need to understand what problems you
solve and how it’s beneficial to them right away.
If they need to think about it and decipher
buzzwords, they’ll most likely go elsewhere.
Buzzwords or message?

Notes de l'éditeur

  1. Po analizie wielu produktów i walut zidentyfikowałem dwa problemy, które wstrzymują masowe wykorzystanie tych technologii przez osoby spoza grona pasjonatów blockchain.
  3. Nie mogłoby to być bardziej czarno-białe. Dobrym przykładem innego podejścia jest Coinbase. Tutaj wszystko jest duże, jasne, czytelne i przejrzyste. Wszystko jest też opisane prostym, zrozumiałym językiem. Nie przeraża bo przypomina istniejące systemy finansowe typu PayPal.
  4. Grono entuzjastów prawdopodobnie zakrzyknie, że jeśli wszystkie produkty pójdą drogą coinbase, a nie binance, to profesjonalni traderzy stracą swoje profesjonalne narzędzia. Oczywiście nie o to chodzi. Dobrym rozwiązaniem byłoby identyfikowanie poziomu “zaawansowania” użytkownika przy rejestracji i danie mu możliwości wyboru z jakiej wersji danej platformy chce korzystać.
  5. To akurat plaga niemal wszystkich produktów cyfrowych, jednak tam gdzie w gre wchodzą pieniądze jest to szczególnie ważny element.
