Miriam Mora is an 18-year-old senior at Creekview High School in Canton, Georgia who immigrated from Mexico 10 years ago. She wrote a business plan for a t-shirt graphic design business and researched how the popularity of customized t-shirt designs has grown. Her plan was to locate the business in a low-income area to make affordable, artistic t-shirts. She had difficulty meeting with her entrepreneurship teacher facilitator after the teacher was moved to another school, but they communicated via email. Her research found that people seek unique, stylish t-shirt designs and her business could be successful if managed properly, though art and crafts remain her top career choice. Dear Judges:
My name is Miriam Mora. I’m 18 years old I’m from Matamoros, Tamaulipas. And I’ve been in
the United States for 10 years now. I’ve developed my English in those years in ESOL; my
writing skills and my reading skills have come a long way. I can understand mostly everything I
can speak English well, too. When I came to the United States I firstlived in Brownsville, Texas.
Then I came to Canton, Georgia. My Goals are to graduate from high school, work for one year
and get into a technical school for a career inart.
My product is a business plan and it relates to my research paper because I researched how t-
shirt graphic design has grown in popularitycan become ever more popular. I specifically wanted
to learn how to attract the attention of my customers and how to produce more graphicsfor t-
shirts to sell. In my plan, I would locate a store in a low-income area. And that way I can sell t-
shirts for a minimum price where lower income people will buy my artistic productions. In this
project I had some obstacles, and they were that my facilitator Mrs. Gravitt, a teacher of
entrepreneurship, was moved to another school. She was a teacher atCreekviewHigh School, but
since she was moved, I couldn’t meet her there because I don’t have transportation to her new
school, so the solution to this problem was emailing, which worked just fine. I sent her any
questions I had and also some of the work I had done for her to react to.
My topic relates to my researchpaper because I researched the history of graphic design and the
history of the t-shirt. What I learned was how people look for a unique style of their own; many
people try to look nice with the latest style that there is. T-shirts meet that need cheaply. I learned
the t-shirt that a lot of people look for is one with a unique style, but some look for a crazy style,
and others for what is new on the market. A business like this could get you really far, but at the
same time make you lose a lot of money. But this career can go as my second choice. My first
choice now is a career in handmade arts and crafts.
One problem with the senior project is that a lot of people don’t really know anybody or does not
have time to meet with a facilitator. The transportation is a problem, too. I also think that many
people just think of an easy career they can do just because it’s easy and does not have to spend a
lot of money. I think all senior should do what they really want to look forward to for their future
and choose the right career they want. Thank you judges for taking your time to read this letter.
Sincerely,
