  7. 7. Online video consumption Online video consumption has considerably increased over the past 10 years. In 2020, 232 million people are digital video users in the USA. As a result, streaming services like Amazon, Netflix or Disney + have showed an increase in sales. Thus, creating doubt on the future of traditional TV viewing. The online videos are mostly watched on mobile phones and computers (Millennial studios, 2020).
  8. 8. Consumer trend Internet of things Over the past couple of years, internet has evolved in ways to create an interconnection between internet and everyday objects. The trend now is to be able to command your house with your phone. Online shopping The current global situation has put an emphasis on being able to rely on online shopping to respect social distancing recommendations. Online shopping was already in expansion before the COVID- 19 pandemic. The trend is even bigger now. Social media Over the past decade, social media has taken over a big part of the society. People are used to messaging and share content. In 2019, social media was active in 230 countries and has grown to almost 3.5 billion active users, pushing the global penetration to 45%.
  9. 9. The future of internet Voice control will be more important The next evolution of internet will be a more accessible user interface, therefore big companies like Facebook, Google or Amazon are developing their voice control systems to make the internet experience more comfortable for people with special needs (e.g. blind or deaf persons or those with learning difficulties). Social landscape will evolve Many of the the biggest social media platforms are losing users. In this business, it is important to constantly bring innovation to social media. One big step that should be taken by these big companies is in terms of privacy. Users are more aware of the important of internet privacy. Marketing as a service The big companies are treating marketing as a service rather than sharing an endless flow of ads to the internet user. It is important for the future of these companies to make sure that marketing adds value to the audience. The consumer is the centre of the campaign with videos like 'how to'. 10. 10. Conclusion Internet has been created more than 30 yeas ago. Since that time, the internet has been in constant evolution. Today, internet is used to assist everyone in day to day tasks. Internet has become so accessible that even the most underdeveloped countries in the world are connected and more than half of the planet is considered to be an active user. The main usage of internet is for sharing information, commerce and entertainment. Even with all this evolution, the internet is still evolving and we have to be ready to see the next phase. An internet that is even more accessible with an improvement of the voice command, a better management of private data and an evolution of the marketing strategies, like a democratisation of inbound marketing.
