history in the industry?

What did you learn?
I learnt about the different equipment used in a film studio for TV and film sets. There was two
different camera that either had the script on what the actors and presenters would say. There
was also a camera that would film the presenters or actors and would be able to show up on
screen to see if they are in shot and if the way the camera is angled is correct. I also learned that
there are loads of different lights, controls that go into filming.
There was a journalist who talked to use about the different qualifications he needed to become a
journalist. He mentioned some of the different stories he had worked on and how he must get
information as soon as possible after the incident such as asking people in the area, who was
involved (if they are in a good condition to talk). He mentioned that some people might not want
to talk, and he had to respect that.
Do you know more about the industry?
I have learnt that in the film industry using everything you know is important and changing the
lighting, camera angles and positions of the actors or presenters can change the way the film or
TV show is going to be shown to the public on TV.
I have learnt that journalists are in the top 5 for unreliable and trustworthy information but even
though this is quite high the numbers are increasing and shouldn’t put people off into becoming a
journalist.
Does it help you think more about potential careers?
Yes, because in a film studio you could be in the control room controlling the different lighting,
effects and transitions that would appear on screen. Meanwhile in the studio you could be
directing the actors and presents, controlling the different camera equipment, making sure
everything is correct and if not fixing it to make it look good on screen.
For the journalist side I have learnt that following the news would be important as you could be
drafting a story on one of many and it must be factual, reliable, and engaging.
Do you know more about facilities or opportunities available to you?
Yes, as there are loads of different companies that would create job opportunities to allow you to
start a career or learn more about media.
Has it helped you meet other relevant people?
Yes, as there would be loads of people who wants the same career as you and who shares the
same interests in media, which could help with collaborative work.
Has it helped you with your current projects?
Yes, as I can add in different camera shots and use loads of tools to get the lighting right, sounds
and many more. For the journalist side it means that I must use information.
Have you learnt new skills?
Yes, as I have learnt that every tiny detail can make a project even better and everything should
be taken to consideration.
