Introduction O Social, Mobility, Analytics and Cloud (SMAC) are individual technologies and platforms which have risen during the past few years and have shown immense growth O SMAC based solutions, when offered and deployed as a SaaS based model, give businesses a real opportunity to develop innovative solutions that ultimately lead to leveraging public IT infrastructure, lowering cost of ownership and deployment of innovative applications that not only improve enterprise decision making capabilities but also allows them to roll out new unprecedented business models and increase their reach to customers O Social links people to their friends, work and each other in new and unexpected ways O Mobile devices are a platform for effective social networking and new ways to work O Analytics (Big Data) helps gain meaningful insights from the information, facilitating informed decision making O Cloud enables delivery of information and functionality to users and systems

Trends O Today, leading companies are capitalizing on digital ecosystems that are exploding due to confluence of social networks, mobile computing , analytics and cloud computing O SMAC challenges enterprises to take advantage of the positive disruptions it portents, while they operate at the rapid pace of innovation and changes in demand O These technologies are quickly changing the way companies relate to their customers, interact with employees, and bring products and services to market O Indian IT companies can play a huge role in helping organizations around the world adopt these technologies and help them transform their business models O As highlighted by NASSCOM, IDC estimates that Indian IT vendors could generate $225 billion in SMAC related revenue by 2020 O On 8th May 2013, WIPRO purchased a minority stake in Opera Solutions, a US-based Big Data company for $30 million, which would help Wipro expand in the Big Data analytics space. Tech-Mahindra’s acquisition of 51% stake in Gurgaon based mobile applications firm Comviva for ~$55 million in September 2013 are further testaments of Indian IT companies recognizing the importance of these technologies and paving the way of large deal flow in the sector

Interest Areas O My interests lie in Big Data Analytics and Cloud Computing O Big Data analytics is the process of applying advanced analytics and visualization techniques to large datasets to uncover hidden patterns and unknown correlations for effective decision making O Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services over the internet which allows individuals & businesses to use software & hardware that are managed by third parties at a remote location. It provides a shared pool of resources including data storage space, networks, computer processing power & specialized corporate/user applications O If given an Internship, I would use Big Data Analytics and Cloud Computing to innovate methods to improve Healthcare services as: O Big Data Analytics will help in the analysis of correlation between treatments and outcomes. Also, real time data can be used from medical devices for better patient care O A Cloud Computing model can be built which will connect various Healthcare units (e.g. hospitals, blood banks), and all the medical information can be updated upon it, which can be utilized by other units for the better treatment of their patients
