PattiExcited to welcome over 125 new staff members to our EC family. You were chosen out of over 1,000 applicants in our personnel database. For the first time in EC history, we recruited new staff members from Spain and welcome 11 of those teachers. In EC we have 12 campuses, 1 HS, 2 MS, 2 Intermediate schools, 5 elementaries, 1 Early Childhood center and one school for aduidicated youth (BCLC).
PattiOur intent is that the beliefs in our organization drive everything we do.Over the next hour we want to not only introduce you to what we say are our East Central’s core beliefs, but we want to give you an opportunity to browse through campus and district artifacts to find evidence of those beliefs. Very proud of our students and staff and their many accomplishments. The challenge is on. If we truly believe these tenants to be true, then you should be able to find evidence at the classroom level, the campus, level and the district level. So… let us introduce you to those beliefs?
Melodye and JonathanSomeone read aloudWe LOVE to learn. East Central believes that this statement is not only directed at our students but to ALL of us. We must never be satisfied with what we already know. You will notice that sometimes PD is lead by district leadership or by campus leadership, but we believe professional development is best when it is driven by personal needs and interests of the individual.
Jananne and DarlaWhy would a student be interested in something if we aren’t? We’ve heard a million times that actions speak louder than words. It is every individual’s responsibility to be aware of their daily influence on the quality of learning. If you have an interest, we encourage you to share that interest with others. From classrooms to grade level teams, from organizational clubs to organizations outside the district we encourage you to grow so that you can influence others!
Taffi & JenniferWhen the maintenance department made it possible for there to be a garden on the Salado campus- they were making engaging opportunities possible. Engagement doesn’t just happen on Tuesday and Wednesdays. It is every student – every day.
Iris & DonnaHigh quality, relevant work. Do students feel free from adverse consequences? Is the work worthy of their effort and time? Will they want to persist even when the task is difficult? We will challenge you to look for evidence that East Central believes work should be challenging, interesting, engaging and relevant.
Stevie & YvetteEver heard “There is no “I” in TEAM? It’s true. It is through our collaborative efforts that EC students will reach their maximum potential as tomorrow’s leader.Whether you are working together as a content team, grade level team, within an organization or with a teacher buddy, the focus is always students.
Meredith & ReyesSo when you think of East Central schools do you think of parents as your partner? Do you think of community members? To be a true partner it means we make a point to communicate, to include, and reach out.
Special EdOur beliefs get us to where we want to go. How will we know we have reached our destination? A clear vision creates a sense of community that makes our vision possible. We will work together toward this end because we have a core set of beliefs about our students, ourselves, and our community.
Special EdHOW WILL WE MAKE OUR VISION A REALITY?East Central believes that a focus on ENGAGEMENT is the way to get us where we want to go.So what does engagement really mean. You’ve all heard the expression “hands on” activity, the Schlechty Center describes engagement as “minds on”. Our students are engaged when we have their mind’s attention. We want you to hear from Daniel Pink, Best-Selling Author, Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us and A Whole New Mind

Taffi & JenniferSo let’s review. What does engagement mean? It is easily misunderstood and simplified. It doesn’t just mean moving around the room or having fun, although those things can come with authentic engagement. It means that what a student is doing is.. personally meaningful is so interesting he/she will persist even when it is hard that it is worthy of their time and attention a student will want to do their very best
