Areas of Experience and Expertise:
 Industrial Water treatment:
Experience in industrial water treatment, effluent treatment plants and
reverse osmosis plants. Proficient in operation and management of industrial
water treatment plants. Principals include filtration, dissolved air floatation,
classifiers, open and closed cooling systems and heat exchangers, large-scale
De-ionized water production and basic water chemistry to prevent scaling,
corrosion and biological control of process water.
 Rotating equipment:
Expertise lies in large centrifugal pump sets, single and multi-stage pumps,
extensive experience in mechanical seals for pumps, high-speed fans both
radial and backward curved impellors, high speed knifes and mechanical
drives, heavy gearbox drives and hydraulic torque converters.
 Boilers:
Both Coal and Gas fired steam generation systems, all regulatory legislation
associated with Pressure Equipment Regulations. Proficient to inspect and
test steam boilers, certified by Mechanical Engineers Institute of the Western
Cape. Experience in medium pressure John Thompson boilers, high pressure
feed pumps and controls.
 Compressed air systems:
Experience in Centrifugal and screw compressors. Trained in centrifugal
multi stage compressors, experience with Joy and Ingersoll Rand 3 stage
machines. Experienced in single and duplex Ingersoll Rand screw
compressors, driers and general air pressure reticulation.
 Furnaces:
Experience in steel re-heat furnaces, gas fired processing furnaces re-co-
operators, gas fired kiln rotary driers and gas burner equipment. Registered
SAGPA natural gas installer under the SANS 329 regulations. Exceptional
experience in gas fired car bottom furnaces and incinerators from conceptual
design to commissioning.
 Refractory Materials and Insulation:
Experience in major refractory brick installations, installation of stack and
burner chamber arched bricks, castable materials, pre-formed refractory
installations and ceramic fibre module systems. Also ceramic fibre and foam
glass insulation systems with both aluminium and stainless cladding.
 Processing lines:
Experience in an array of processing lines varying from high-speed paper
mills, cold mill steel processing lines through annealing and pickling, CNC
graphite processing and machining lines. Experience includes pneumatics,
hydraulics, mechanical drives and machine design, electrical automation and
control and instrumentation.
 Acid storage and processing:
Experience with exotic materials both ferrous and non ferrous forthe
storage of sulphuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid and caustic soda.
 Bulk material handling equipment:
 More than 10 years’ experience in Bulk Material handling at Graftech
International.
 Handling of Metallurgical coke, Needle coke, Solid petroleum Pitch and
carbon and graphite dusts.
 Experienced with screw conveyors both shaft and shaft less.
 Belt conveyors both open and covered with scrappers and dust suppression.
 Bucket elevators both chain and belt driven
 Vibration pan feeders both magnetic and vibratory driven designs
 Rotary vane feeders and double flap valves.

 Intake hoppers for bulk material including off-loading grids and grizzly’s
 Crushers, including double roll, cone crushers and cage crusher designs.
 Experience in silo design with mass flow properties.

 Overhead cranes:
Experience in Demag, Lasch and Morris hoist and overhead cranes as well as
regulatory requirements with LMI inspections and certifications.
 HT substations:
 Large Motorised Control Centres and PLC cabinets
 Distribution transformers, experience in 6.6/33kV distribution stations and
SF6 breakers
 Design and construction of cable gantries and cable rack supports
 Civils:
General industrial civil engineering. Includes building large foundations and

4. Metallurgical Coke Air Vacumation System. Design, source and turnkey
manage largest vacumation system installed up to date in Africa. Steel, civils,

5. Full Column loading Line and overhead crane. Design and project manage

8. Coke Blending Project – Very large bulk material handling project forming
part of a plant expansion at the Mill Mix and Forming division at Graftech
South Africa. Responsible for project from conceptual design and business

Project was a combination of in-house design using Solid Edge 3D modelling
as well as outsourcing segments of the total project as a turnkey project.

needs. Worked with Erie Press Systems the original OEM and transformed a
45 year old press into the most modern technology .
