2. ABSTRACT:
Advancement in science and technology
required exponential growth in the demand of
energy resources. It has been observed that
municipal solid waste is increasing as the world
is progressing in population. Among these
municipal solid wastes, it is Polyethylene and
polystyrene which are very difficult to recycle
and then contribute to major reasons of
environmental pollution.
Keeping in view the above mentioned factors,
we tried to come up with a very innovative idea
of developing a Pyrolysis plant which not only
help the reduction of the wastes but also
provides an alternative energy source. It is also
an environmental friendly project which resists
the production of environmental hazards. This
project is just a beginning of the idea but a time
will come when every consumer will have an
alternate to convert the daily solid waste
including Polyethylene and Polystyrene for the
production of fuel.
OBJECTIVES:
To study the thermal pyrolysis of different
plastics mainly Polystyrene (PS) and
Polyethylene (PE).
To optimize the process experimentally to
convert the plastic waste into liquid fuel.
Modeling of pyrolysis plant.
Fabrication of the pyrolysis plant.
DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF A PYROLYSIS PLANT TO CONVERT WASTE PLASTIC INTO LIQUID FUEL
SYSTEMATIC DIAGRAM:
WHAT IS PYROLYSIS?
Pyrolysis is a process of thermal degradation
of a plastic material in the absence of
oxygen.
Plastic material is fed into a cylindrical
closed chamber.
It is pyrolyzed at the temperature of
370°C–420°C.
The pyrolytic gases are condensed into
liquid fuel in a specially designed condenser
system.
END PRODUCTS:
Pyrolysis oil:
Used in Electric Generators, Boilers,
Diesel Pumps, Furnace,
Hot air generators, Hot water generators,
Thermal fluid heater, etc.
Hydrocarbon Gas:
Reused in the Pyrolysis Plant.
Carbon Black:
Used in Rubber Industry, Plastic Industry,
Paints, Inks and cement industry etc.
ADVANTAGES:
Volume of the waste is significantly
reduced (50–90%).
Solid, liquid, and gaseous fuel can be
produced from the waste.
Storable/transportable fuel or chemical
feed stock may be obtained.
Environmental pollution may be reduced.
Energy is obtained from renewable
sources like municipal solid waste or
sewage sludge.
Capital cost is low.
CONCLUSIONS:
Alternative energy resource.
Storable fuel is obtained.
Reduction in pollution.
Cheap fuel as compared to conventional
ones.
