1. Rainwater use optimization
The agriculture sector in Iran is one of the most important economic
sectors in the country.
According to the forecast update 2010 agriculture provided 13 percent
of GDP 22 percent of employment 20 percent of non oil exports.
Considering moisture in day most of the rain fed areas are classified a
semi arid with average annual precipitation of 200 to 600 mm.
Precipitation distribution pattern varies in different seasons as an
average in rain fed areas 28% is received in autumn, 44% in winter,23 %
in spring and the 5% remaining in summer.
The total arable land of Iran is about 19 M.ha. Total rainfed areas is
about 10 M.ha within 4 M.ha are annually kept under fallow and the
6.3 M.ha is under cultivation.
The main agricultural crop productions of Iran are wheat, Barley,
Potato, rice and sugar.
Presently the contribution of rainfed areas toward national annual crop
production is 10 percent but the rainfed production play's important
role in major crop. 31 percent of Wheat, 34 percent Barley and 48
percent of pulse crop product in rainfed areas. The total rainfed
agriculture is about 8.7 M tons.
