• Transportation, the movement of Humans, animals, goods and
persons from place to place and the various means by which such
movement is accomplished.
• Transportation provides us with access to what people value and
need to live their lives: work, education, food, recreation and other
essentials.

14. Lahore Metro
• The Lahore Metro bus is a bus
rapid transit service operating in
Lahore Punjab, Pakistan.
• The Lahore Metro bus was
designed to be opened on 11
February 2013 starting
from Gajumata to Shahadra.
• The total length of Lahore Metro
route is 27 km.
• It is Collaboration between the
Turkey and Pakistan.

15. Multan Metro
• The Multan Metrobus is a bus
rapid transit (BRT) system
in Multan, Punjab, Pakistan.
• The Multan Metro route is 18.5
kilometers (11.5 mi) long, with
12.5 kilometers (7.8 mi) elevated
section.
• It has 21 bus stations, with 14
elevated stations and seven
ground level stations.

17. Peshawar BRT
• TransPeshawar or Peshawar Bus
Rapid Transit Peshawar BRT is
a bus rapid transit system currently
under construction by the Peshawar
Development Authority (PDA) in
Peshawar.
• The BRT will have 30 stations.
• The line will also contain 3.4
kilometers of underpasses, 10.5
kilometers of at garade and 13.7
kilometers of elevated part .

• The Road Encircles Lahore.
• The Lahore ring road was
constructed in 2009.
• The total length of Lahore ring road
is 52.18 miles.
• An emergency lane is present on
both sides of the road.
• It is estimated that 425,000
vehicles pass through daily.
• As many as 20 interchanges were to
be erected.

19. National Highways Authority (NHA)
• National Highway formed in 1988.
• Pakistan’s total road network is
around 263,942 Kms which carries
over 96 percent of inland freight
and 92 percent of passenger traffic.
• It maintains 12,131 kilometers
(7,538 mi) of roadways organized
into various classifications which
crisscross the country and provide
access to major population centers.

network of multiple-lane, high-
speed, controlled-access highways
in Pakistan, which are owned,
maintained and operated federally
by Pakistan's National Highway
Authority.
• 1860 km of motorways are
currently operational as of 18
November 2019, while 2406 km are
currently under construction.
21. Grand Trunk Road (GT Road)
• The Grand Trunk Road also formerly
known as Sadak-e-Azam is one of
Asia's oldest and longest major roads.
• For at least 2,500 years, it has linked
the Indian Subcontinent with Central
Asia.
• It runs roughly 2,400 kilometres
from Chittagong, Bangladesh west
to Kabul, Afghanistan, passing through
Allahabad, Delhi, and Amritsar in India
and Lahore and Peshawar in Pakistan.
• Major cities are in Pakistan Lahore,
Gujranwala, Gujarat, Jhelum,
Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Khyber Pass
towards Jalalabad in Afghanistan.
22. Karakoram Highway
• Chines name of the road is 喀喇昆仑
公路
• History completed in 1979 , open to
public since 1986
• The Karakoram Highway (the China-
Pakistan Friendship Highway) is a
1,300-kilometre (810 mi) national
highway which extends from Hasan
Abdal in the Punjab province of
Pakistan to the Khunjerab Pass in
Gilgit-Baltistan, where it crosses into
kashgar, Xinjiang, China and becomes
China National Highway 314.
24. Domestic Rail (Orange Line Metro)
(Subway)
• The project was initiated with a signed
memorandum of
understanding between the
governments of Pakistan and China in
May 2014.
• Orange Line is an automated rapid
transit system in Lahore, Punjab,
Pakistan.
• The line will span 27.1 km with 25.4
km elevated and 1.72 km
underground. The line will be served
by 26 stations.
• When open in 2020, the line will be
Pakistan's first metro.

25. National Railway (Pakistan Railway)
• Pakistan Railways is the national, state-
owned railway company of Pakistan.
• Founded in 1861 and headquartered in
Lahore, it owns 4,800 miles (7,791 km)
of track across Pakistan from Torkham
to Karachi and operates freight and
passenger service.
• Pakistan Railways is an active member
of the International Union of Railways.
• In the 2018/19 financial year, Pakistan
Railways served 70 million passengers.

26. International Railway
• The Samjhauta Express commonly
called the Friendship Express, is a
bi-weekly train—Thursday and
Monday—that runs between Delhi
and Attari and Lahore Pakistan.
• The word Samjhauta means
"agreement", "accord" and
"compromise" in both Hindi and
Urdu.
• The train was started on 22nd July
1976 following the Shimla
Agreement and ran between Amritsar
and Lahore, a distance of about
52 km.

29. National Air Transport (PIA)
• Pakistan has 151 airports and 92 of them have paved runways while 54
have unpaved runways. In addition, the country possesses only18
heliports.
• PIA was founded on 29 October 1946.
• Its main hub is Karachi's Jinnah International Airport, while Allama Iqbal
International Airport in Lahore, and Islamabad International serve as
secondary hubs.
• PIA became the first Asian airline to operate jet aircraft with the induction of
the Boeing 707 into commercial service on 7 March 1960, and later in 1964
became the first non-communist airline to fly to China.
• PIA operates a cargo delivery system within and outside Pakistan.

34. Water Transportation in Pakistan
• The waterway network in Pakistan is in its infancy, with Karachi being
the only major city situated next to the Arabian Sea.
• Two main ports of the country, that is, Karachi and Qasim handle 95 percent of the
national imports and exports.
• The traffic at these ports has been growing at an annual rate of over 20%.
• Still, plans are being proposed for the development of the waterways in the
country along the Indus River and through the Punjab as it would boost
employment opportunities and the economic and social development of Pakistan.

• Ferry services run between
Kimari and Minora Island
in Karachi.
• Karachi used to have a ferry
connection with City of Mimbai
in India until the 1960s, but it
was later discontinued when both
the countries went into war.
37. China-Pakistan Economic Corridor
• China–Pakistan Economic Corridor is a collection of infrastructure
projects that are currently under construction throughout Pakistan.
• CPEC is intended to rapidly upgrade Pakistan's required infrastructure
and strengthen its economy by the construction of modern
transportation networks, numerous energy projects, and special
economic zones.
• On 13 November 2016, CPEC became partly operational when
Chinese cargo was transported overland to Gawadar Port for onward
maritime shipment to Africa and West Asia.
• A vast network of highways and railways are to be built under the
aegis of CPEC that will span the length and breadth of Pakistan.
38. China PAKISTAN Economic Corridor
(CPEC)
• Modern transportation networks built under CPEC will link seaports
in Gwadar and Karachi with northern Pakistan, as well as points
further north in western China and central Asia.
• A 1,100-kilometre-long motorway will be built between the cities
of Karachi and Lahore as part of CPEC, while the Karakoram
Highway from Hassan Abdal to Chinese border will be completely
reconstructed and overhauled.
• CPEC's potential impact on Pakistan has been compared to that of
the Marshall Plan undertaken by the United States in post-war Europe.

42. Automatic traffic controlling System in Pakistan
• The PSCA is putting up 10,000 Automatic
Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)
cameras across city roads to monitor traffic
flow and catch violation of rules.
• The PSCA is automating all traffic signals
and lights are being replaced with those
meeting international standards.
• The PSCA has launched the E-Challan
system in Lahore and different cities in
Pakistan .
• E-Tag To Collect the toll payment of the
vehicles on the road using Automatic
Vehicle Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)
cameras.
43. Intelligent Traffic Controlling System in Pakistan
• For the first time ever in Pakistan, an Intelligent Transportation
System (ITS) is set to be introduced by the Capital Development
Authority (CDA) to ease transportation-related issues.
• Under this system, CCTV cameras, with static and Pan-Tilt & Zoom
(PTZ), will be set up after every three (03) kilometers with a coverage
of 500 meters along with the establishment of a Traffic Control Center
(TCC).
• With speed control deemed a vital component of the system, a point-
to-point (P2P) automated speed enforcement system will be used to
detect the speed limits in which the average speed between the points
will be calculated.
• To keep the general public in the loop about the traffic at the
Expressway, a web portal and mobile app will be developed as well.
