See what Israel excels in, according to the World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Report (WEF GCR), and according to the International Institute for Management Development's World Competitiveness Yearbook (IMD WCY ).
Though so small - Israel became a source of technological innovation – most of the multinationals opened a branch and an R& D center in Israel ;
1 - very difficult 7-very easy Here we see Israel’s VC ranking from the IMD an institute which I believe you are all aware of. This ranking is from the competitive yearbook of 2010 of the International Institute of Management and Development ( and this is only one of the many other excellent rankings in the area of R&D and innovation that we received from international organizations . May I add that Israel got an overall ranking of 17 from the IMD .)
20% of AOL’s investments are in Israel 391 Israeli high-tech companies raised $1.26 billion from local and foreign venture investors in 2010 which was less by 13% from 2009 but well below the $2.08 billion raised in 2008. However, the last quarter of 2010 showed an increase from the third quarter of the same year .
Es un circulo vicioso, del espíritu emprendedor por un lado, la ayuda del gobierno por otro lado, y el capital riesgo abundante por el tercer lado
This transparency shows the decrease in VC investment in communications over the last decade and the increase in life sciences to 28% . Also we see the emergence of investment in the clean-tech area. In the next transparency, you will see the investment by sector .
In 2010, Israel has recovered from the global economic crisis, and is back to previous years’ growth rates . In the 4 th quarter of 2010, Israel experienced exceptional growth rates .

Since 2003, gross public debt has been on a consistent downward trend , only interrupted by the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the 2009 global economic crisis. Today, Israel tries to further decrease the debt-to-GDP ratio towards 60%.
Government expenditure has always been relatively large compared to other OECD countries due to several factors. These include: the need to absorb massive immigration waves (especially in the 1950’s), increasing security and defense expenses (especially after 1967) and more. In the last two decades, Israel is demonstrating a gradual decrease in government expenditures as percentage of its GDP.
Average project budget: 1 million Nis per year Government support: Up to 50% Support duration: 1 year Annual Government support for International R&D projects: $100 million Funding Rules: Grants - scale from 20% - 50% of the approved budget + regional incentives Conditional Grant: Royalty payments 3% - 5% of the future product sales
Israel is ranked 1 st of all OECD countries by expenditure on R&D (research & development) as a percentage of GDP (4.27 %), demonstrating innovation , development and creativity .
Israel’s 3-year average growth rate is higher then most OECD members
Israel’s unemployment rate is in an ongoing downtrend, reaching an historic low level of 5.5% in Q2 2011 . During the last global economic crisis, Israel experienced a relatively mild increase in unemployment rates .
