  2. 2. HISTORY In the Era of 1900-1950,There is no scope of aerodynamics. Shape of the vehicle is not defined. Speed of the car is improved but the design of the aerodynamics is not improved.
  3. 3. INTRODUCTION • Automotive aerodynamics is  the  study  of  the aerodynamics of road vehicles. Its main  goals  are  reducing  drag  and  wind  noise,  minimizing  noise  emission,  and  preventing  undesired  lift  forces  and  other  causes  of  aerodynamic instability at high speeds.

WHAT IS AERODYNAMICS ? • Aerodynamics is the branch of dynamics that deals with the motion of air and other gaseous fluids and with the forces acting on bodies in motion relative to such fluids. • In the term AERODYNAMIS, AERO stands for air, DYNAMICS denotes motion. Aerodynamics is an engineering science concerned with interaction between bodies and atmosphere.
  5. 5. NEED OF AERODYNAMICS  SPEED better the aerodynamic design, higher will be their speeds. FUEL EFFICIENCY better aerodynamics , less work for engine.

  11. 11. WING THEORY  Uses the same principle as an aircraft.  Aircraft uses lift whereas SPORTS cars uses down- force.  Drag- another important factor on SPORTS car.

SPOILER/WINGS It is a device whose intended design is to generate down force as air passes around it,  not simply disrupt existing airflow patterns A spoiler is an automotive aerodynamic device whose intended design function is to 'spoil' unfavorable air movement across a body of a vehicle in motion, usually described as turbulence or drag.  Spoilers on the front of a vehicle are often called  air dams
  13. 13. • AIRDAM is the front area of sport car. Spoilers on the front of a vehicle are often called air dams, because in addition to directing air flow they also reduce the amount of air flowing underneath the vehicle which generally reduces aerodynamic lift and drag. FRONT END OF SPORTS CAR

CONCLUSION • Aerodynamics is now the most important item on the car which a team can actually change, because if you look at the tires, everyone has the same tires and the engine is homologated. So aerodynamics is the single biggest item we can change - the biggest performance item on the car. • Although they may seem restricted by tight regulations, these regulations only add more challenge to the game that engineers must play.
