6. Work History in Logistics:-
- Started Supply Chain career in Lonmin on 1 April 1989.
- Raised from clerk over a very short span of six years
to Materials Controller/Manager and then to Supply Chain Manager
(relieving) in charge for the whole of Lonmin supply chain.
- During that time I studied and obtained:-
o Certificate Warehousing (SAIMH)
o Diploma in Materials Management (SAIMH)
o Advanced Diploma in bulk Materials Handling (SAIMH)
o UNISA certificate in Purchasing Management
- In my spare time I enrolled as lecturer at Damelin Rustenburg,
teaching all aspects of Supply Chain.
- I obtained various other certificates in Logistics, safety and
environment areas, and I am an accredited Six Sigma Yellow belt.
- With my focus more directed towards Warehousing, I during 1995
was appointed as Materials Controller of the Lonmin Karee Mine
stores, overseeing all projects and operations in the Mining and
Processing verticals.
- That self-set goal being achieved, I set my next goal
to manage the full supply chain and all Supply Chain Functions which
I reached during 2004.
- I then was part of Re- structuring and the introduction of the SAP
Legacy system where after I returned to being the Materials Controller/
Manager for the whole of the Lonmin Mining Division (SA) warehouses.
- During 2007 I was appointed as the Warehouse Manager for the Mining
and Process division Warehouses of Lonmin SA. I implemented strategic
warehousing programs. All Lonmin Warehouses reported into me.
- I gained experience in all Supply Chain Functions, Accounts Payable
to some extent, and Internal logistics in the Mining environment.
- Various systems and procedures that are still used today, I have
developed and implemented.
- I analysed, designed, implemented and managed all Supply Chain
7. Functions in Lonmin.
- During May 2010 I started work for Rand Uranium, who was
Later purchased by both Gold1 and later Sibanye Gold.
- My function in Rand Uranium was Superintendent Inventory and I was
tasked to develop and implement a Materials Management solution. Part of
the task was to implement SAP and start a Warehouse for the mine, which I
completed successfully.
- My reason for leaving Lonmin was because I was offered a better
opportunity by rand Uranium with more responsibilities in managing the
full Supply Chain function and an opportunity to start the fully Automated
Warehouse that was planned for the Uranium process. Unfortunately this
never realised due to financial constraints.
- I left the services of Sibanye Gold because I was offered a promotion
by Nordgold and also the opportunity to be the Supply Chain Superintendent
taking charge of the Lefa Mine Supply Chain, and relieving in 25% of the
time during the year as Director of the Supply Chain and Logistics. It was both
Challenging and a further learning and developmental road.
- While working for Nordgold, I successfully completed (during
October 2016) some further training in Contracts Management in Austria
presented by London Training for Excellence.
- In the Warehouse we are presently busy implementing Bar Coding
and I want to in due time automate the Warehouse processes and improve
more of the daily Supply Chain Challenges such as reducing cost to
company of the buying processes.
Services and Methodology
I always analyse, design, develop, implement and manage any function in
the Supply Chain and Logistics . The methodology I use is to do
a best practice analysis and identify gaps to focus on and based
on the 20/80 principle to make the biggest impact by improving/fixing
the gaps. The methodology is based on a balance between the lowest
investment whilst maintaining or increasing of service and availability
to the required level. Here thinking out of the box is needed because although
the wheel is already developed, to lead is to invent better practices.
8. Services that must be attended to are the following;
• Implement a Supply Methodology, consisting of;
o Classification Processes, ABC, Bar coding
o Criticality process based on Production loss, Safety and Health
and Environmental impact
o Forecasting, using historical and future data
o Lead Time Management, and improvement (JIT)
o Inventory Policy consisting of Service level requirements, review
period, Replenishment cycle etc
o Excess Management
o Order Management
o Management reporting
• Design and implement a procurement strategy based on a spend
analysis
• Contract management, assist with implementing contracts
• Warehouse design and optimal layout
• Implement proper housekeeping programs
• Design policy and procedures
• Training by leading the team and with continuous examples
• Design and implement goods/equipment repairable processes
• Enhance team work and break down Silos
• Ensure service to clients is priority and key while improving all aspects
9. already Mentioned
• Design and develop KPI’s in line with company scorecard vision and
mission
Experience has shown that to have the best results and quick wins, the
clients should be closely interacted with and listened to as part of the Supply
Chain Team, to achieve the best results in a balance between investments
and service levels. That is best practice to be continuously improved on.
