  3. 3. Characteristics • Composition –marble ,granite, quartz, glass • Occurrence-man made but with natural materials like marble or other stone chips • Physical characteristics- hard, heavy, durable • Choices –available in wide range of colors, textures • Porosity – it is impenetrable to water
  4. 4. Advantages • Aesthetic Appeal: Terrazzo flooring is completely unique in its appearance, • Additionally, specific designs can be easily put into terrazzo flooring, allowing you to match the appear • Durability: Terrazzo flooring is extremely durable. • • The polymer that is used to bind together the bits of stones is similar to concrete, which allows for your floor to withstand a great deal of traffic.
  5. 5. • Easy Maintenance • Because the surface of terrazzo flooring is sealed and completely flat, it is extremely easy to clean • very hard for chemicals and other substances to stain your floor. • Water resistant: It is nearly impenetrable to water due to its low moisture absorbency and hydrophobic nature.

Disadvantages • Cost: The initial cost of terrazzo flooring is quite high, far exceeding other types of flooring like tile or hardwood. • This means that terrazzo flooring may not be the best option for every homeowner. • Long Installation: This installation process is quite complex, which increases both your installation costs and the amount of time that it takes until your floors are ready,
  7. 7. • Slippery:Terrazo can be slippery when wet. • Cold:It is good conductor of heat and so it leads to a lot of heat loss in room heating. • Stains:Terrazo tiles are prone to stain marks caused by acidic substances like vinegar and tamarind.
  8. 8. Features • Beautiful asethetics • Environmental friendliness • Sanitation friendliness • Durability in high –traffic and high-stress settings • Low maintenance
  9. 9. Manufactures • There are plenty of manufactures in cities like new delhi ,jaipur, raanchi ,udaipur etc • Golden india tiles company • Chandigarh • 08377802495 • Online store at tradeindia.com
  10. 10. Manufacturing process • Terrazzo is concrete containing marble chipping as an aggregate. Terrazzo mixture is made up of cement and marble chips in different proportions. • First of all, a concrete bed is formed as a base course which is covered by tarred paper. Over this, a layer of rich mortar is spread. This mortar bedding is struck off about 1 to 1.5 cm below the finished floor level. • After that metal dividing strips of 20 gauges in thickness are inserted into the mortar base and the terrazzo covering.
  11. 11. • After the mortar base has hardened the terrazzo mixture is placed at the top level of the dividing strips. • After the terrazzo mixture has hardened the surface is ground by hand or by a machine. After cutting we use waxing for glazing floor.
  12. 12. Terrazzo application • With one wheelbarrow amount of mixture, apply it accordingly to the floor and spread it at once by means of your floor roller. To make sure the marble chips are evenly and firmly bonded to the floor, press them correspondingly with the trowel. • Apply further amounts of marble chips liberally onto the floors so that there would be a bunch of marble chips loosely scattered. • Then use the floor roller again to pack the terrazzo mix together and to expel the air bubbles that may have formed during the application process.
  13. 13. SUITABILITY OF TERRAZZO FLOORING It is used in entryways, the entire house and public and commercial buildings. Terrazzo is hypoallergenic and is water and bacteria- resistant. For these reasons, it is often used in kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and recreation rooms.
  14. 14. Checklist • When the floor is ready for use, you should check it on the following grounds. • Proper cement concrete ratio under layer is provided in cement concrete flooring. Marble chips match with size and specification. Thickness of flooring is good. Sizes of panels are right. There is uniformity of chips and colors. There are no cracks in the floor. There is no hollow sound when trapped. There is proper workmanship-polish, smoothness, lines and levels.

  16. 16. Sizes • 4' x 8' (48" x 96")* • 4' x 4' (48" x 48")* • 2' x 4' (24" x 48")* • 2' x 2' (24" x 24") • These are the popular sizes of tiles in market • Cost is decided according to the quality
  17. 17. Colors There countless colors available in market
  18. 18. thickness • terrazzo itself is usually 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick and is placed on a 1 1/2-inch-thick bed of mortar. • This mortar bed may rest directly on the base slab but frequently it is separated from it by a 1/4-inch cushion of sand or a layer of asphalt paper • . • Such a separation reduces the possibility of shrinkage cracks. •
