3. Abstract
Blcok chain is decentralized transaction and data
management technology. It is developed first for
Bitcoin crypto currency. Since 2008 the idea of this
technology has been coined and the reason for
increased interest due to its central attributed that
provide security, anonymity and data integrity
without any their party organization in control of
the transaction. This paper discusses what is block
chain technology, types of block chain technology,
and discussions about block chain technology and
its uses in library services.
4. Introduction
Block chain is growing list of
records called blocks. Once its
recorded the data cannot be
modified. By design a block
chain is resistant to
modifications of the data. It is
an open distributed ledger that
can be recorded transactions
between two parties efficient
and in a verifiable and
permanent way.
Block chain was invented by
Santoshi Nakamoto in 2008 to
serve as the public transaction
ledger of crypto currency
bitcoin.
6. Use as a metadata
block chain in libraries
block chain operate as a
type of informational
ledger that doesn’t
require a centralized
gatekeeping organization,
they could be used to
build a truly distributed
metadata system for
libraries and related
organizations
7. Connect to a network of libraries/
universities
Libraries and Universities might use the blockchain for
the interplanetary file system(IPFS), a peer to peer
protocol for a future internet that uses Bit Torrent,
GIT and Block chain. A net work of libraries/
Universities could serve to validate the credentials of
a given copy of any website similar to what miners do
for Bitcoin
8. Implemention of blockchian technology
Implementation a possible ways of block
chain technology in libraries:
• Protecting the copyright of literary works
• Block chain can act as a tool to check the
issue regarding plagiarism issues
• Digital right Management
• Online resource access authentication
9. Made discussion and conferences to
implement
Alman, a lecturer at San jose stat university
and Hirsh, director ofSJSU and other IT
Proffessionals delivered their views on the
magazine of American library association
and also from 2017 Many discussion and
some conferences are also made on
implementation of this technology.
10. The summary of these discussions are :
librarian or library worker needs to know about blockchain
requires an entirely different breadth and depth of
knowledge from making decisions about a blockchain
implementation to manage interlibrary loans.so the
librarians Familiarity with what block chain because this
such a new evolving technology.
Share a digital object with a friend when no server is
available to host the file
A blockchain-based distributed data management solution
would perhaps enable us to access data more easily across
the library landscape.
In academic libraries, blockchain technology is directly
applicable to the peer-review process and for chain of
custody for digital repositories
11. Major drawbacks
One of the biggest drawback of this technology is
transactions recorded in the block chain are supposed to
be immutable .
In this technology, total strangers to exchange things
without trusting one another. no need an intermediary
referee, It could greatly limit the role of integrated
library systems.
So there is the potential for some very disruptive changes
to the way libraries operate this technology
