- Storyline Enterprise orgs don’t want to build and run data centers – they will be brokers of services that span on- and off-premises resources. Cloud first. Manage data, not data centers.In the past, CIOs have viewed their IT organizations as a builder of services for the business. But with the explosion of new web services to reach customers, incredible growth in mobile devices, new technologies like flash, the new paradigm of cloud computing, CIOs are dealing with more complexity than ever, and this is driving them to rethink their role. Today, CIOs are moving from being builders of apps and operators of data centers to becoming brokers of information services to the business. They're embracing new technologies and new service models that allow them to make IT faster, cheaper, and smarter and make their companies more responsive and more competitiveMoving to the cloud:Customers want lower cost and faster provisioning with scale.Ideally, customers don’t want to manage data center – cloud first if possible.Mandate to move to cloud (we hear the “AWS mandate” all the time).While they need these things, they do not want to (cannot) give up control.

They WILL move to public cloud/hyperscalar, but won’t give it all away. - The IT sector is on a Journey.As customers continue to adopt virtualization technology, we have seen a fundamental shift in how they are able to build, run and deliver IT services to their business partners and how they have been able to directly advance their business goals.The Journey is more than a path of adopting increasing amounts of technology. We intend to virtualize the network for speed and efficiency, just like we did for the server. And finally, we will automate data center and cloud management.
- But applications need data—and data needs to be stored somewhere. And that’s the next leg of our software-defined data center journey. Storage is complex and hard to get right, but it’s mission-critical. You lose a packet, you retry it, your server goes down, your HA get restarted—but storage you’ve got to get right.
- Storage is an industry effort and we’ve had a long history of working with the ecosystem. We’re going to continue to work deeply with the ecosystem as we drive this software-defined storage vision, extending it to working closely with the server suppliers as they embrace and enable VSAN in their platforms. We are also continuing to work with our storage partners in areas like Virtual Volumes, and finally with the entire industry as we work to enable this virtualization of data services.We encourage all of you in the storage industry to look at and enable a new class of data services for the future. Software-defined storage is a key leg of the overall software-defined data center vision.
- vCloud Suite provides the essential building blocks for building and operating an SDDC.The highlighted boxes show the products included in the vCloud suite and we recommend the suite as the first step for all enterprise customers on their SDDC journey. For SMB and commercial customers the recommended first step is: vSphere with Operations Management or vSOM

- Our roadmap is very much based on the feedback and guidance our clients have given us. The first service we expect to launch later on in the fourth quarter is a service that’s going to be of great appeal to clients already using our Site Recovery Manager products—we are calling this a Disaster Recovery as-a-Service offering and it’s a very logical extension if you are existing user of our capabilities to now see vCloud Hybrid Services a destination for disaster recovery.The second is Cloud Foundry.
