God's Sovereignty Over All Nations

EAST, WEST, AND THE TRUE GOD
Numbers 16:22
He is "…the God of the spirits of all
mankind"

He Is the God of the Bible

But if we use only these
standards for finding out what
God is like, we are left
wondering which parts of
nature and man show us God,
and which parts show us
something else.

He Is Not a God Made by Man.

Then what will a person do if he
is empty inside but does not
want to change his selfish ways
in order to find God?

When a man refuses to serve
the true God and creates his
own, that god will reflect his
own sick mind.

Romans 1:20-25

For ever since the world was created,
people have seen the earth and sky.
Through everything God made, they
can clearly see his invisible qualities—
his eternal power and divine nature. So
they have no excuse for not knowing
God…

Yes, they knew God, but they
wouldn’t worship him as God or even
give him thanks. And they began to
think up foolish ideas of what God was
like. As a result, their minds became
dark and confused.

Claiming to be wise, they instead
became utter fools. 23
And instead of
worshiping the glorious, ever-living
God, they worshiped idols made to
look like mere people and birds and
animals and reptiles.24
So God
abandoned them to do whatever
shameful things their hearts desired…

… As a result, they did vile and degrading
things with each other’s bodies.25
They
traded the truth about God for a lie. So
they worshiped and served the things
God created instead of the Creator
himself, who is worthy of eternal
praise! Amen.

No western civilization ever
created a god which came up
to the Bible picture of God—
the wonderful, unselfishly
loving, infinite Creator.

God became the "Infinite
Everything, the Cosmic
Ultimate, the Oneness of All."

Many years later King Belshazzar gave a
great feast for 1,000 of his nobles, and
he drank wine with them. 2
While
Belshazzar was drinking the wine, he
gave orders to bring in the gold and
silver cups that his predecessor,
Nebuchadnezzar, had taken from the
Temple in Jerusalem...

... He wanted to drink from them with his
nobles, his wives, and his concubines.

So they brought these gold cups taken
from the Temple, the house of God in
Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles,
his wives, and his concubines drank from
them.4
While they drank from them they
praised their idols made of gold, silver,
bronze, iron, wood, and stone…

Suddenly, they saw the fingers of a
human hand writing on the plaster wall
of the king’s palace, near the lampstand.
The king himself saw the hand as it
wrote, 6
and his face turned pale with
fright. His knees knocked together in fear
and his legs gave way beneath him…

The king shouted for the enchanters,
astrologers, and fortune-tellers to be
brought before him. He said to these
wise men of Babylon, “Whoever can
read this writing and tell me what it
means will be dressed in purple robes of
royal honor and will have a gold chain
placed around his neck. He will become
the third highest ruler in the kingdom!”

But when all the king’s wise men had
come in, none of them could read the
writing or tell him what it meant. 9
So the
king grew even more alarmed, and his
face turned pale. His nobles, too, were
shaken. 10
But when the queen mother
heard what was happening, she hurried
to the banquet hall…

… She said to Belshazzar, “Long live the
king! Don’t be so pale and frightened.
11
There is a man in your kingdom who
has within him the spirit of the holy
gods. During Nebuchadnezzar’s reign,
this man was found to have insight,
understanding, and wisdom like that of
the gods…

… Your predecessor, the king—your
predecessor King Nebuchadnezzar—
made him chief over all the magicians,
enchanters, astrologers, and fortune-
tellers of Babylon.12
This man Daniel,
whom the king named Belteshazzar, has
exceptional ability and is filled with
divine knowledge and understanding…

…He can interpret dreams, explain
riddles, and solve difficult problems. Call
for Daniel, and he will tell you what the
writing means.” 13
So Daniel was brought
in before the king. The king asked him,
“Are you Daniel, one of the exiles
brought from Judah by my predecessor,
King Nebuchadnezzar?...

I have heard that you have the spirit
of the gods within you and that you are
filled with insight, understanding, and
wisdom. 15
My wise men and enchanters
have tried to read the words on the wall
and tell me their meaning, but they
cannot do it.16
I am told that you can give
interpretations and solve difficult
problems…

DANIEL 5
… If you can read these words and tell
me their meaning, you will be clothed in
purple robes of royal honor, and you will
have a gold chain placed around your
neck. You will become the third highest
ruler in the kingdom.” 17
Daniel answered
the king, “Keep your gifts or give them to
someone else, but I will tell you what the
writing means…

… 18
Your Majesty, the Most High God
gave sovereignty, majesty, glory, and
honor to your predecessor,
Nebuchadnezzar. 19
He made him so great
that people of all races and nations and
languages trembled before him in fear.
He killed those he wanted to kill and
spared those he wanted to spare…

…He honored those he wanted to honor
and disgraced those he wanted to
disgrace. 20
But when his heart and mind
were puffed up with arrogance, he was
brought down from his royal throne and
stripped of his glory. 21
He was driven
from human society. He was given the
mind of a wild animal, and he lived
among the wild donkeys...

… He ate grass like a cow, and he was
drenched with the dew of heaven, until
he learned that the Most High God rules
over the kingdoms of the world and
appoints anyone he desires to rule over
them. 22
“You are his successor, O
Belshazzar, and you knew all this, yet
you have not humbled yourself…

DANIEL 5
… 23
For you have proudly defied the Lord
of heaven and have had these cups from
his Temple brought before you. You and
your nobles and your wives and
concubines have been drinking wine
from them while praising gods of silver,
gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone—
gods that neither see nor hear nor know
anything at all…

… But you have not honored the God who
gives you the breath of life and controls
your destiny!24
So God has sent this hand
to write this message. 25
“This is the
message that was written: MENE, MENE,
TEKEL, and PARSIN. 26
This is what these
words mean: Mene means ‘numbered’—
God has numbered the days of your reign
and has brought it to an end…

Tekel means ‘weighed’—you have been
weighed on the balances and have not
measured up. 28
Parsin means ‘divided’—
your kingdom has been divided and given
to the Medes and Persians.” 29
Then at
Belshazzar’s command, Daniel was dressed
in purple robes, a gold chain was hung
around his neck, and he was proclaimed
the third highest ruler in the kingdom...

That very night Belshazzar, the
Babylonianking, was killed, 31
And Darius
the Mede took over the kingdom at the
age of sixty-two.

Mene means ‘numbered’—God has
numbered the days of your reign and has
brought it to an end.

Tekel means ‘weighed’—you have been
weighed on the balances and have not
measured up.

We depend upon God
for our very breath.
He is the one who sustains our
life, and determines our days.

Those muscles that are vital
for continuation of life,
God has left under His control.

Fair or not is not a judgment
that you are privileged to make.
That is the way it is.

Jesus Christ is the only
righteousness that the Father
accepts!

That is the very reason that God
made provision to
assign/accredit to you the
righteousness of Jesus Christ by
your simple faith in Jesus as
your Lord and Savior.

"Those things that were gain for me
(The things that I was putting on the
scales.) I counted loss for the excellency
of the knowledge of Jesus Christ, and do
count them as refuse, that I may know
Him and be found in Him, not having
my own righteousness, which is of the
law, but the righteousness which is by
Christ through faith."

Parsinmeans ‘divided’—your kingdom
has been divided and given to the Medes
and Persians.”

"You fool, this night your soul
will be required of you,
and then who shall possess
your riches?"

He is not the finite,
selfish tribe of western gods.
He is not the impersonal,
ultimate force of eastern
ideas.

‘O Zion, messenger of good news, shout
from the mountaintops! Shout it louder,
O Jerusalem.Shout, and do not be afraid.
Tell the towns of Judah, “Your God is
coming!” 10
Yes, the Sovereign LORD is
coming in power. He will rule with a
powerful arm. See, he brings his reward
with him as he comes…

He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He
will carry the lambs in his arms, holding
them close to his heart. He will gently lead
the mother sheep with their young. The
LORD Has No Equal 12
Who else has held the
oceans in his hand? Who has measured off
the heavens with his fingers? Who else
knows the weight of the earth or has
weighed the mountains and hills on a
scale?..

Who is able to advise the Spirit of the
LORD? Who knows enough to give him
advice or teach him? 14
Has the LORD ever
needed anyone’s advice? Does he need
instruction about what is good? Did
someone teach him what is right or
show him the path of justice?15
No, for all
the nations of the world are but a drop
in the bucket…

… They are nothing more than dust on the
scales. He picks up the whole earth as
though it were a grain of sand. 16
All the
wood in Lebanon’s forests and all
Lebanon’s animals would not be enough to
make a burnt offering worthy of our God. 17
The nations of the world are worth nothing
to him. In his eyes they count for less than
nothing— mere emptiness and froth…

To whom can you compare God?
What image can you find to resemble
him? 19
Can he be compared to an idol
formed in a mold, overlaid with gold,
and decorated with silver chains? 20
Or if
people are too poor for that, they might
at least choose wood that won’t decay
and a skilled craftsman to carve an
image that won’t fall down! …

Haven’t you heard? Don’t you
understand? Are you deaf to the words
of God— the words he gave before the
world began? Are you so ignorant? 22
God
sits above the circle of the earth. The
people below seem like grasshoppers to
him! He spreads out the heavens like a
curtain and makes his tent from them…

He judges the great people of the
world and brings them all to nothing. 24
They hardly get started, barely taking
root, when he blows on them and they
wither. The wind carries them off like
chaff. 25
“To whom will you compare me?
Who is my equal?” asks the Holy One.
26
Look up into the heavens. Who created
all the stars? …

… He brings them out like an army, one
after another, calling each by its name.
Because of his great power and
incomparable strength, not a single one
is missing. 27
O Jacob, how can you say
the LORD does not see your troubles? O
Israel, how can you say God ignores your
rights? 28
Have you never heard? Have
you never understood?...

... The LORD is the everlasting God, the
Creator of all the earth. He never grows
weak or weary. No one can measure the
depths of his understanding.29
He gives
power to the weak and strength to the
powerless. 30
Even youths will become
weak and tired, and young men will fall
in exhaustion…

... 31
But those who trust in the LORD will
find new strength. They will soar high on
wings like eagles. They will run and not
grow weary. They will walk and not
faint.
