The first documentary and only mention of the
village of Cornaţel - now the Monastery - is a
document from June 1, 1526 of Radu de Afumaţi,
document in which Cornăţelul was called "boyish
village". In a document dated May 5, 1538, it is
found as a "fair". On December 23, 1575,
Alexandru Voevod, in a manuscript, named
Cornţelul, "the city of my reign", the town of
boyar.
There are two archaeological sites of national interest in the
Monastery village, near the village of Sultana: the Latène
settlement located in the eastern village "Gheţărie" on the
Malciu Valley; And a neolithic necropolis belonging to the
Boian culture, located on the "Valley of the Orb", at the
mouth of a viol near the village of Cureteşti.
