COMMUNITY HOUSING
River Road Community Housing creates a comfortable and welcoming environment for its residents. The community is built
community, encourage bicycle and pedestrian activity, create
opportunities for informal interactions, connect to nature, and create a place for all ages.
The site is subdivided into three clusters, each with their own community garden and outdoor kitchen meeting space.
The grouped car and bicycle parking encourages chance encounters and interactions and provides a strong sense of
community within the development. A pedestrian and bicycle path stretches through the site, growing as it nears the public
bike path. This guides residents towards the river and encourages biking and walking.

Unit Relationship
Native vegetation becomes a focus of the
development and helps to reestablish the native
prairie which is a vital environment for animals along
the river. This also helps to maintain runoff and
eliminate the need for the usual maintenance of the
traditional suburban lawn.
Native plants and permeable pavers are used to help
control water, while excess rainwater is guided off the
paths into bioswales and water tanks.
Levels of privacy are established through paving and
the surrounding landscape features.

PALLADIANO COMPLESSO
Located in the historic center of Vicenza, Italy, the location for the Palladiana Complesso holds great importance drawing
attention from the surrounding towns, as well as the local residents. To create a space for the people of Vicenza, the site is
broken into smaller pieces, creating meaningful ‘piazze’ or public sqaures bordering the Palladio Basilica.
The small scale piazza is created between two new buildings as a perfect place for residents to gather on their daily
commutes, during public activities and performances, and the frequent markets.
A market building is created on the south end of the site as a continuation and activating element for the Piazza delle Erbe,
currently underused for a weekly farmers market. The openess of the market building provides a smaller scale element
and engaging landmark for passerby and visitors. Moving north through the intimate piazza created, is the public service
and performance hall building

DUO
A table that can function as both a work desk and dining table constructed of solid walnut and 5/8” Russian Birch
plywood.
The elegant form of the table was developed by wrapping the plywood around strong solid walnut shapes to create
a sturdy table.
Hidden drawers pull out from either end creating extra storage for easy to lose items such as pens and pencils as well as
silverware. A long piece of wood stretches between the legs just under the table top for additional storage of magazines,
books, laptops, and placemats.

SHELL RADIO
Constructed using the parts of an old pocket radio, this eye-catching radio engages the user and allows the tuning element
to become the focus. Through a series of notched dials, the typical tuner is transformed into the engaging sliding
tuner.
The volume on/off controls discreetly protrude from the back edge of the form, providing for a sleek design with minimal
interruptions. The tuning control is reminiscent of plastic sound board controls, but constructed using natural materials
creating an interesting and unique object for the user to engage with.
The form was created with layers of MDF, and formed with plastic in a vacuum former. The wooden faceplate, tuner dial,
and volume dial are made of birch wood.

CROSS-ROADS
The pavilion opens itself up to a square in Copenhagen, encouraging interaction among the many people in the city, and
exhibiting the growing bicycle culture. Concrete steps rise from the ground creating urban street furniture with views
to the surrounding city, while showing exhibitions along the structural backbone of the pavilion.
The enclosed glass space below grows out of the concrete to create a bicycle rental shop and repair center, while the
shape opens itself up to the square to encourage interaction and revitalize a part of the city that has become neglected.
The thick backbone of the pavilion provides bicycle storage within the concrete form. Interior walls provide bicycle exhibition
space, while the smaller spaces provides shelving and storage for bicycle repairs.
