Nina Kotova: Page Six Carnegie Hall Concert Review

  1. 1. March 26, 2019 | 1:58pm Bella Thorne breaks down during Carnegie Hall performance Bella Thorne made her stage debut as an author on Monday night. Wearing a silver sequin gown by Cristina Ottaviano, the “Midnight Sun” actress, 21, read from her book, “The Life of a Wannabe Mogul,” at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. The explicative-laden poems and short essays discussed her love life, self-image and relationship with her father, who died in 2007 after a motorcycle crash. While reciting a poem about the loss of the late Reinaldo Thorne, the actress grew more emotional and wiped away tears. At the end of her performance, Thorne turned towards the audience: “I just want to say that my dad might be dead, but I believe in something, and I believe he would be proud of me,” she said. The two-hour show included renowned cellist Nina Kotova, who has performed at Buckingham Palace for Prince Charles, and pianist Valentina Lisitsa and was sold out with nearly 200 attendees. Thorne’s boyfriend, rapper Mod Sun, made an appearance after a 15-minute intermission to recite “Wichita Vortex Sutra” by Allen Ginsberg. After the show, Thorne and Mod Sun held a small afterparty at Zinc Bar in SoHo. She told Page Six that she recorded a vinyl to accompany the book that includes the sound of a motorcycle crash and music composed by Mod Sun. She also said that she did not have an editor change anything in the typewriter-composed work, including spelling mistakes. Thorne expressed concern that her sometimes morbid, personal thoughts might be misconstrued without the proper context. “You By Melissa Minton Getty Images Bella Thorne Skip to main content
