The silken tent
1. TheSilkenTent
The silken tent by Robert Frost is a poem that expresses the characteristics
of women by describing a silken tent. In this poem, the poet is comparing
tent with the women. Woman is personified as “Silken tent” in the middle
of a field.
The enjambed lines “The silken tent “helps to emphasize the importance of
women. When the dew has dried, the tent becomes tight. And all its ropes
also became loose and moves gently. When the woman is free from her
domestic duties, she freely goes here and there.
Like supporting pole of tent, her soul is reliable. As the tent is tied with
many ropes, she is also bound with ties of thoughts. Bondage refers to her
marriage vows and her husband both of them are bound by religious, social
and legal obligation.
The physical qualities of softness and lustrous in women have been strived for
all kinds of women. She is capricious like the summer air. Her love for others
and her own happiness shines clearly.
Women as a whole are always changing, but the idea of beauty still remains the
constant theme among them all which is why it is an emphasized point in The Silken
Tent.
