Hypertext'15 presentation talk. We found that at most 38.7% of composite mementos are both temporally coherent and that at most only 17.9% (roughly 1 in 5) are temporally coherent and 100% complete. Using multiple archives increases mean completeness by 3.1–4.1% but also reduces temporal coherence.

In: Proceedings of the 8th ACM Conference on Recommender Systems (RecSys), 2014. Abstract: "Matrix completion latent factors models are known to be an effective method to build recommender systems. Currently, stochastic gradient descent (SGD) is considered one of the best latent factor-based algorithm for matrix completion. In this paper we discuss GASGD, a distributed asynchronous variant of SGD for large-scale matrix completion, that (i) leverages data partitioning schemes based on graph partitioning techniques, (ii) exploits specific characteristics of the input data and (iii) introduces an explicit parameter to tune synchronization frequency among the computing nodes. We empirically show how, thanks to these features, GASGD achieves a fast convergence rate incurring in smaller communication cost with respect to current asynchronous distributed SGD implementations."

In: Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Dependable and Secure Computing for Large-scale Complex Critical Infrastructures (DESEC-LCCI), 2012. Abstract: "The SIENA publish/subscribe system represents a prototypical design for a distributed event notification service implementing the content-based publish/subscribe communication paradigm. A clear shortcoming of SIENA is represented by its static configuration that must be managed and updated by human administrators every time one of its internal processes (brokers) needs to be added or repaired (e.g. due to a crash failure). This problem limits the applicability of SIENA in large complex critical infrastructures where self-adaptation and -configuration are crucial requirements. In this paper we propose HSIENA, a hybrid architecture that complements SIENA by adding the ability to self-reconfigure after broker additions and removals. The architecture has a novel design that mixes the classic SIENA’s distributed architecture with a highly available cloud-based storage service."
