2. Purpose
The purpose of BANG magazine is to review and interview
everything relating to the superhero genre. As the superhero
genre has a large following and fan base, this would be a suitable
focus.
Interviews and exclusives would be held for the fans of both
independent and larger blockbuster films, so that the most
superhero content is covered where possible.
The purpose would also be to entertain viewers. This can be
achieved through informal and conversational tone in articles etc.
Promotion is another purpose of BANG.This would be to
introduce new and existing streaming services, and help bring
more attention to independent film companies etc.
The purpose of advertisement could become a focus by bringing in
revenue from ads within the magazine as an idea.
3. Target
Audience
The age of the targeted audience will be from the ages of around 12 –
35 years old. This is because the superhero industry also reaches out
to this kind of audience as most commonly superhero movies are
rated 12+ by the BBFC, so therefore it makes sense to target the same
audience that these films receive.
Gender wise, men would be a better suited audience to promote to.
This is due to the consumer market of the genre being mostly male
dominated. However, this may vary with different content in the
magazine, for example, wonder woman may appeal to a more female
dominated audience.
The income of the targeted audience would be middle to upper class.
This is because these are the consumers that can afford monthly
subscriptions etc and are more likely to be interested in the genre as
they have the disposable income to spend on cinema trips to see the
films as well.
The primary target audience would be 12- to 35-year-old men of all
race and ethnicity who come from a middle to upper class
background.
The secondary target audience would be the same but for women.
4. Form,Genre
and Price
BANG will include a monthly subscription process. It will also allow
for singular issues to be sold and yearly subscriptions to be sold at
discounted prices. The prices will be as follows:
Single: £3.99
Monthly Price: £3.49
Yearly Price: £39.99
The psychological pricing aspect should also help boost sales.
Every BANG magazine will have a QR code on the back which
allows consumers to access an online PDF version of their copy on
the BANG website for free.
The magazine will feature 50 pages in total and have a glossy front
and back with thin paper inside.
The genre will obviously be superhero based.
5. Content
and article
ideas
The content of the magazine would include reviews, interviews
and articles (and other content like premiers or events etc) based
around the genre of superheroes.
The magazine will also feature exclusive interviews with staff from
independent and large superhero content creating firms that
viewers may find entertaining.
New streaming service HERO + will also feature in the magazine,
alongside PRIMEVIDEO which is an existing streaming service in
an approach of promotion.
A USP of BANG is that it doesn’t just focus on the blockbuster
aspect of superhero content, but also what independent firms are
working on too.
6. Resources and
personnel
Some resources that may be useful:
- A digital camera to take photos for cover and other images
- Adobe photoshop to edit the cover on and other graphics
- A computer (preferably IOS) to work on and edit
- Access to internet to research and upload on
Some Personnel that would be efficient:
- An editor and creative director to make executive decisions and
lead the project
- A researcher to elusively make the most out of every resource
used
- A graphic designer to creatively design the layouts etc.
7. Distribution
and Marketing
The magazine will begin with being locally sourced in North London to reduce
expenses and help utilize local market research.
When the magazine starts to increase in sales and grow in popularity, it can be
sold in other places nationally.
Book shops, newsagents and the BANG magazine website would be the main
places where it can be bought.
Online versions of the magazine can be found via the BANG magazine
website and can be accessed either via a QR code on the physical copy, or
from the BANG membership option which gives users access to 12 copies for a
12-month membership.
Added fringe benefits will also be inside. For example, cinema snack discounts
to North London cinemas. E.g., Everyman Barnet. This is a USP.
Marketing methods will mainly be online and on social media.
These social media accounts will grow alongside the popularity of the
magazine which will overall increase sales volume. Examples of social media
platforms would include Facebook, Instagram,TikTok,Twitter etc to appeal to
all audiences, primarily the target audience of 12- to 35-year-old men of all
races with middle to upper class backgrounds.
Posters may be put up in appropriate places too, for example, cinemas etc.
8. FONTS
For the Masthead:
‘Bubblegum’ font would look good as it takes inspiration from comic books and
so does the superhero genre. The inspiration of comics doesn’t end there, as the
onomatopoeic aspect of the title ‘bang’ is taken from the classic comic pop
culture.
For the Coverlines, the idea of comic inspiration is continued but with a
slightly neater looking font so that it doesn’t stand out more than the
masthead.
For the body copy, a neat and easily read font would be appropriate. For
example, Cambria font.

10. Competition
Competition may include
brands like EMPIRE.They also
base their content around
blockbuster movies including
superhero ones. For example,
this Spiderman NoWay Home
issue:
https://www.empireonline.com/
movies/reviews/spider-man-no-
way-home/
However, BANG differs from
empire as it also focuses on
specifically superhero's and
focuses on local and
independent content.
