IN 2011, WOMEN ACCOUNTED FOR AROUND
38% OF ALL GERMAN COMPANIES
CONSISTING OF ONE INDIVIDUAL.
THIS IS THE SECOND HIGHEST SHARE
BEHIND AUSTRIA (42%) AND IN FRONT OF
Poland (35%).
IN THE SAME YEAR, AROUND 25% OF
GERMAN ENTREPRENEURS WITH
EMPLOYEES WERE WOMEN. POLAND HAD
THE HIGHEST SHARE AT 30%.

SELF-EMPLOYMENT – DEVELOPMENTS OF THE PAST DECADE
SINCE 2002, THE NUMBER OF GERMAN
FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS WITH
EMPLOYEES HAS GROWN BY 8% AND
THE NUMBER OF ONE-WOMAN
COMPANIES BY 51%.
AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF ONE-
WOMAN COMPANIES WAS OBSERVED IN
ALL COUNTRIES IN THE COMPARISON.
THERE WAS A STRONG RISE IN THE
NUMBER OF FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS
WITH EMPLOYEES IN FRANCE, POLAND
AND SWEDEN.

WOMEN ARE WELL-QUALIFIED
• In Germany 30% of women and men hold a university degree.
• The ratio of women having a university entrance qualification
was 53% in 2012.
SEGREGATION IN THE AREAS OF STUDY
• Above average amount of female students in the areas of social
sciences and the humanities.
• Under-representation in the MINT-professions and engineering.
BETTER QUALIFICATION OF SELF-EMPLOYED WOMEN
• Female entrepreneurs are generally better qualified than female
employees.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FEMALE AND MALE
ENTREPRENEURS
• Female entrepreneurs pursue different strategies and goals to
their male counterparts and start out with less entrepreneurial
experience.
• Female entrepreneurs are more risk-aware.

CHILD CARE SERVICES MAKE IT EASIER TO PURSUE A
CAREER
• Low level of childcare-services for children under the age of three
(28%) and only 12% of them are in full-day-care.
• Between three and six years the majority (89 per cent) of the
children are in formal childcare and 40% of them are in full-day-
care.
• few all-day-schools and childcare-provision during the afternoon
for schoolchildren
THE PREDOMINANT IMAGE OF THE ENTREPRENEUR IS STILL

THIS IS THE SECOND HIGHEST SHARE BEHIND AUSTRIA (42%) AND IN FRONT OF Poland (35%). IN THE SAME YEAR, AROUND 25% OF GERMAN ENTREPRENEURS WITH EMPLOYEES WERE WOMEN.   • 6. 2013/05/06 FEMALE-OWNED COMPANIES SELF-EMPLOYMENT – DEVELOPMENTS OF THE PAST DECADE SINCE 2002, THE NUMBER OF GERMAN FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS WITH EMPLOYEES HAS GROWN BY 8% AND THE NUMBER OF ONE-WOMAN COMPANIES BY 51%. AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF ONE- WOMAN COMPANIES WAS OBSERVED IN ALL COUNTRIES IN THE COMPARISON.   • 7. 2013/05/06 FEMALE-OWNED COMPANIES PARTICULARITIES OF FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS AND THEIR COMPANIES 7 WOMEN ARE WELL-QUALIFIED • In Germany 30% of women and men hold a university degree. • The ratio of women having a university entrance qualification was 53% in 2012. SEGREGATION IN THE AREAS OF STUDY • Above average amount of female students in the areas of social sciences and the humanities. • Under-representation in the MINT-professions and engineering. BETTER QUALIFICATION OF SELF-EMPLOYED WOMEN • Female entrepreneurs are generally better qualified than female employees. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FEMALE AND MALE ENTREPRENEURS • Female entrepreneurs pursue different strategies and goals to their male counterparts and start out with less entrepreneurial experience. • Female entrepreneurs are more risk-aware.
