Presentation - Scaling up nature-based solutions to address water-related climate risks: insights from country experiences, Dálnoky

  2. The situation of NBS in Hungary 2 The main problems  NBS is rather weak, low awareness  Lack of supportive (enforcing) legal and regulatory background  Expertise needs to be strengthened  Dominance of fancy grey projects (with everything behind) HOWEVER - Political aspects: pressure from the public (but short term survival will always be more important than long term survival, look at covid) - Economic aspects: new, emerging market (our sales strategy) - Global problems – „global” solutions with integrative tools (different disciplines and solutions to several problems) - Think big and rely on your „country konwledge” (e.g. universities, projects) - Local expertise and networks exists, funding was available for green-blue municipal solutions
  3. Structural Reform Support Programme (SRSP/TSI) Promoting green and blue municipal infrastructure Three main goals:  An overview of the problems of the Hungarian building codes in terms of green infrastructure, and how these can be amended (instead of „climate, biodiversity” approach)  Mainstreaming into other policies (e.g. transport, water utilities, energy etc.)  How municipalities and local bodies involved in construction, municipal and regional development can enforce the aspects of green-blue infrastructure in their own regulations
