Our institute located at Dehradun is a primier institute in field of Oil/Gas well drilling .Our parent organization is ONGC.
Idt is an integrated institute having applied R&D facilities ,Operation monitoring and has well established Training division.
Training division at our institute has two arms ,DTS and WCS .DTS conducts training programs with the objective to develop technically competent and safety conscious work force.
In Drilling industry, the consequences of failures are severe, and may lead to uncontrolled flow of Hydrocarbons called as blowout. Every blow out that takes place, results in loss of equipment & natural resources worth crores & can result in loss of human life and environmental damage. Hence, top priority is accorded to train & re-train the personnel especially in the ‘Well Control’ techniques. Our WCS looks after mandatory training on Well control .
Most of the faculty members have versatile field experience ranging from 15-20 years & are engaged in R&D activities, well planning or operation monitoring in their respective fields at the institute & are exposed to field case studies.
All the faculty members are approved by International Well Control Forum (IWCF), Scotland and IADC, USA for conducting training programs on well control.
we conduct training of two types, one is “Basic Course” and another is “Advance Course” to give options to customers to choose training requirement based on qualification level of participants, and experience of participant and assignment of participant.
Both the category of training programs are designed to keep the participant updated about the advancement in both technology and equipment to cater to the needs of present day requirements and provide realistic training that is operationally relevant, more in line with 'actual conditions and scenario’.
In Door-step courses we conduct course at work centre for the field persons focusing mainly on their specific problems and case studies of their field which is very effective and they relate with it and able to understand their problems and solution.
The door-step courses are very successful and very economical too. Instead of 25 – 30 persons comes to IDT for the training only 2 to 3 faculties visit work centre which saves lot of money in terms of TA-DA. The field executives are also out from their duties for only three days.
We have well written handbooks and manuals covering different aspects from technical to safety.
Training process at our institute is well documented and is customer FOCUSSED. WE prepare our annual training calendar based in-house inputs and Feedbacks received from customer. For every program we conduct , a dedicated program cordinator is assigned and we maintain pool of faculty for every year based on training deliverables.
All relevant data for training program is documented in prescribed QHSE formats. This data is used for our own evaluation and identifying areas to focus thus maintaining a culture of continual improvement.
To keep our customers well informed, we prepare and share customer report with them .
After completion of each training programme, DTS takes feed back from each participants in the prescribed QHSE format
Based on the feed back received from the above source, the course is being updated and reviewed to make it more effective.
Year 2020-2021 was the year of transformation for us. When the entire world was affected by Covid pandemic, we are proud to share with you that we did not shutdown even for a single day during Covid pandemic. Infact , we accelerated our efforts to continue training programs by switching to virtual mode. But the best part is that we switched to digital mode in all stages of condction of training programs .We digitalized our QHSE forms for all all courses .We had to prepare registration forms, pre test ,post test and Feedback forms in user friendly formats and manage it so that all participants are able to fill these forms. The system has evolved so effectively that we have decided to continue paperless conduction of training program in future .
As our training modules involved practical demonstration and not just theory, it was a big challenge to be able to provide realistic training on equipment operation , maintenance and safety. We developed software for the smooth conduction of training program in Online mode . In the slide is the software developed for one of our training program .We converted all the Power point slide into interactive
animation with cross sectional view/ complete detail of all the parts of
the equipment. Training through this software has been very
effective and make participants to understand the subject properly as
they view and observed all the details and line operation of the equipment.
To create Learning environment, in online training mode , we used many methods to engage our participants and make our training programs interactive.
In all our training programs, we introduced formation of teams , then during sessions their were quizzes and points were allotted to teams based on their response. In last two sessions in every training program , we has designed different rounds of quizzes ,each round using different method to play for eg in one round we prepared symptoms and participants had to identify root cause , in another round we would give problems and based on that participants had to fill in blanks. The best part was that when one team play other had to judge so this way all participants were fully engaged and online training programs turned out to be very effective.
We put in efforts to collect latest case studies and we has converted case studies discussion also in team game ,Making it a discussion among participants and finally faculty giving in inputs.
In Apr’20, Developed in-house online well control course module suitable for Drilling and well services personnel in line with IWCF/IADC pattern.
In Aug’20, received Accreditation for conducting IADC online courses.
In October 2020, received Accreditation from IWCF for theory & Practical Assessment.
48% reduction in well control incidents in last 4 year which also reduces blowout incidents in ONGC.
