1. Open Transferable and Technology Enabled Educational Resources
(OTTER)
Otter is based at the University of Leicester and is one of the JISC/HEA-
funded OER projects within the institutional strand. Senior Management at the
University of Leicester is fully behind the concept of the OER movement.
The OTTER team (at an internal OER event at the University of Leicester,
September 2009) described their project as relatively small in terms of an
OER project as compared to OpenLearn:
• 15 subject areas including the Schools of Education, Law, Science,
Maths and Physics.
• 360 credits worth of material in the first year
• One of seven institutional OER projects funded by JISC/HEA
• A small team including a Copyright expert
• The focus is on using existing materials
• Providing single small items of quality OER to attract students
• Possibly also publishing on oercommons and JorumOpen
• Putting up resources in multiple formats: text, pdf, powerpoint
possibly dissertations, secondlife, video
• Putting OER on a stick
