This is the report of Rails Girls Brussels, event that took place on 7-8th February 2014 at Betacowork Coworking.
It gives an idea about the format of the event and also insights on how the atmosphere was.
2. On Friday
evening we had
installation
party.
All the software
had to be ready
so the next day
we start on
time!
3. 15 coaches had
a dinner on
Friday evening
The reservation
was made on
“Rails Girls”, so the
waiter was a bit
disappointed to
see 14 guys
instead of, the
expected, 14 girls
:)
P.S. We had a girl coach
too ;)
4. After setting
the pace of the
day, we started
with two
presentations
on web
applications and
front-end tools.
5. And then we
started to code!
Every coach
assisted 2-3 girls
during the
journey.
6. We had 5
lightning talks
from coaches,
all aiming to
give more
insights
regarding their
learning curve.
8. When we asked
girls to
describe the
workshop, they
replied...
Nice balance between coding, talks and more
personal time with the coaches and other girls.
Not just about Rails, but about coding, learning
how to code and coping with difficulties in
general. Incredibly inspiring people, among the
coaches and the participants.
Esther
I'd say that it was a great event to
break the biases the non tech people
have about coding.
Angela
Awesome!
A workshop / get-together for women of all
ages and backgrounds where you will get
hands-on experience on the basics of making a
web page.
Annika
Beautiful people, great introduction to
the ruby on rails, tons of positive
emotions :)
Eva
The atmosphere was very enthusiastic.
Wao, 1 coach per 2 students ! These guys
really do believe that more women need
to become coders!
