world
Thanks to their many influencer partnerships, Disney
have made sure that Aladdin was inescapable in
feeds in the lead up to opening weekend.
But before you reach for the over priced popcorn
take comfort in the fact that the classic is being
criticised less for its racial insensitivities.
The remake now depicts a pan-Arabian culture,
stripping away any specificity. Most notably you will
not hear any mentions of Allah, Agrabah has been
changed from depicting an Islamic Kingdom to one
that is indiscernible. And the lyric “Where they cut
off your ear, if they don’t like your face, it’s barbaric,
but hey, it’s home” has been removed from the song
Arabian Nights.

@YiaYiaNextDoor is the latest viral account to not
only takeover newsfeeds but also capture
Instagram hearts.
The popular Melbourne account features videos
of two brothers being handed various plates, pots,
bags, and bowls of leftovers over their back fence
from their neighbour, Nina - who is more
affectionately called Yia Yia.
But this isn’t an amazing tale of friendship through
food. It’s a tale of love forged in tragedy. Six years
ago the brothers mother was murdered in their
home and found by Yia Yia. Since that day she has
always cooked two serves extra and treated the
boys to the weekly meals that have made them
Insta famous.

4. Ever swiped through Tinder and thought “if
only everyone here was privately educated”?
Well you might not have, but apparently a third
of Aussies did.
Toffee is the world’s first dating app reserved
exclusively for privately educated singles. UK
creator of the exclusive dating app, Lydia Davis
said she had received countless requests from
the 34% of privately educated Aussies to bring
her services down under.
Since launch the dating app has attracted
countless headlines & downloads,
controversially proving Davis right - people
from similar backgrounds are more likely to
stick together.
