Trump, feminism, immigration and terrorism. All things readers want to know about in
America
Conventions – TIME use a the same red banner and red title on each of its covers. They also
use mainly black and white text and colour photos. The photography is usually of an
important person in a very commanding and attentive stance. The format of TIME, which
became standard among news magazines, consists of a large number of short articles
summarizing information of general interest and newsworthy significance concerning
current events. There is usually a lot of writing and one big picture that summarises all the
text.
Audience appeal- The writing of controversial topics and people helps entice readers into
buying it. Also as it is a weekly magazine people will buy it every week. It is marketed
towards the older generation as they will be more interested in politics. When we look at
the NRS grades I think it marketing towards ABC1. In psychographic terms I believe it is
targeted at the social conscience type B and totally integrated.

9. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
– Large picture in the middle of a DPS
– Large tittle and sub tittle
– Lots of little bits of information about what’s
inside
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
– All of the above
10. Bibliography
1. TIME Inc. (2018) TIME
2. Bauer Media Group (2015) EMPIRE
3. Trusted Media Brands (2018) Taste Of Home
12. Initial Reaction
• Log your initial thoughts regarding the set brief
– I am not as excited about this topic as I am more
interested in the film aspect but I think it may be
interesting as I have never produced a magazine
before.
– I am looking forward to taking the photos as I enjoy
photography and learning more about Photoshop and
InDesign.
– I am not looking forward to the actual writing of the
articles because I dislike creative writing.
16. Mood Board Analysis
• Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?
– There are no colours that are repeated through out but I think
that a colour theme can be repeated through out
– All the DSLR’s are kitted out and I think for the photos it will
have to be like that to match the real ones
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• I will have to kit out the dslr’s for the photos and make everything
look professional
• I will also have to make sure there is a lot of information on the
front cover like the other magazines

What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
• I am going to re-use the idea of a large picture
in the front that sort of covers the title
• I am also going to use re-use the idea of custom
fonts throughout the magazine

29. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
No Kit to customize the camera for images Internet Pictures
Loosing pictures Back up
No pictures on time Make time
Loosing internet Get all assets on local storage
Computer Issues Save everything in different locations
30. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Hit by car taking photos Don’t stand in the road
Heavy kit can hurt back Don’t carry too much at a time
Eye strain from working on computers Take breaks every 90 minutes
RSI Take breaks from using the mouse and
keyboard every ten mins
Bad Hearing Don’t listen to music loudly whilst working
Bad Back from chairs Stretch your back and sit u straight
32. Process
• For the front cover I used the
studio to take pictures of the
camera I was talking about
with all of the kit on it.
• I also made part of the picture
go on top of the title to give
the impression it is an
established magazine
• For the words I used different
fonts that I got from da font.
• I am much happier this picture
than the old one as this is
much cleaner and looks more
professional. I am also much
happier with the new title as
well as it just sounds better
than the old one
33. Process
• This was the original
photo for the front
cover. I liked it but it
was a bit too dark for
the overall vibe of the
magazine and it
doesn't portray DSLR
filmmaking very well
compared to the other
one with a clear
microphone and tripod
34. Process
• The DPS was meant to
be done in InDesign but
the software was an
absolute nightmare and
refused to work
normally. I eventually
did it in photoshop as I
know how to do more
things in PS than ID.
• I used an outer glow and
inner glow to make the
picture on the left blend
more nicely with the
harsh black background
35. Process
• The contents page, in my
opinion looks the most
professional out of the
three pages I made.
• For the canon advert I
used a picture of Adam
so made up nonsense
about the camera he is
holding to make it look
like a real advert
• I also used dafont to get
the custom fonts which
give a fun feel to the
piece
36. Process
• I also used Lightroom
to edit the studio
pictures and make
them look nice.
• I shot in RAW so I
could fix any mistakes
like under exposed or
off white balance in
post. This saved a few
good pictures that
have been used in the
final piece
