Cupid Cosmetics – Cosmetics Brand
18/02/2023
Main area of activity:
My project consists of many elements of media. For example, I will be creating the brand logo,
product design, website design, filming and directing an advert, and creating social media
accounts. All of this compiles up to build the foundation to a makeup brand.
Rationale:
During my time at college, I have worked in many areas of media. I have worked with print the
most, twice in creating a magazine and a fanzine. Last year, I involved print work in my Final Major
Project when I shot and designed a billboard poster for a perfume product, and additionally, the
movie concept project included producing a magazine front cover and billboard poster. I feel most
comfortable when working on apps such as Photoshop as I have the most experience and
confidence in that technology and medium. When it comes to designing elements and attributes of
my brand, such as the brand logo and product designs, I believe that I will complete these tasks
well as a result.
Over the course of the 2 years at college, I have discovered that I lacked tremendously at applying
enough information when researching and gathering ideas for my projects. This has led me to fall
behind as there have been blind spots in my design concepts and audience research which have
led me to not have a clear direction to where my projects were heading. This has caused
complications as I was evaluating my work as I did not have a great amount I knowledge on what
to write about my planning. The first big project I submitted in college was a music video to the
song ‘Radio’ by Lana Del Rey. I was not aware of the amount of detail required in my research and
planning; this is because I was used to working at a much smaller scale during my media GCSE.
Due to the lack of detail, or more so irrelevant research, the music video lacked hugely in
complexity and recorded clips. I believe that since my first project at college, I have gradually been
getting used to the medium of work I am set and now I have a clearer idea of effort I should be
submitting.
Project Concept:
For my FMP I am going to be creating a cosmetics brand concept and the elements which make it
deemed as a successful brand set up. For example, I am designing products that will then be
displayed on the brand’s website. Not only this, but I am setting up a social media profile for the
brand so that there will be a more communal outreach aspect to the brand. The main aspect of my
brand is a product/s advert, focusing on the release of a new and exciting Valentine’s Day themed
makeup set that the brand is presenting to the public. The key message of the advertisement will
be focused on how each product included in the gift box can elevate the customer’s Valentine’s
Day experience.
I will be researching existing cosmetics brand’s conventions such as their designs and marketing
strategies along with pre-existing makeup adverts. For example, the brand Glossier is one of my
favourites and will have a large impact on the production visuals of my project. I will also look at
YouTube tutorials on how to create a cinematic advert/commercial and how to plan effectively for
the production element.

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
In order to evaluate my work effectively, I will try my best to keep a weekly log on my work.
Therefore, when I produce an evaluation document, I will have a log of my progress of the project
and how I felt about my work at each stage which will be beneficial in terms of content I have to
write about. I will also ask for an assessment on my work from peers and reflect their input into the
evaluation document. I believe that I will have a lot to write about as the content for this FMP is
very heavy and there are so many conventions that will be going into make my brand whole.
This is my final project before I will be heading towards getting prepared for university and this has
a huge effect on the chances of success in my media career. All the conventions that will be going
into the project will be key skills that I should acquire so that I am prepared for the heavy workload
I should be preparing for at university and career as a whole.

Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Pre-production For the first week of pre-production, I am going to focus
on contextual research. I will be researching people and
brands that have inspired the concept of my FMP. I will
be researching brands such as Glossier by Emily Weiss
and Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez as they are the main
benefactors to the inspiration for my product. I will also
compose mind maps and mood boards so that I can
visualise my final product and set myself up well for
planning and production.
2 Pre-production The second week will be focused on completing my
contextual research. Finishing up work I have not
completed so far. As I reach the end of my context
PowerPoint, I will be setting myself up for potential

research activities and set a plan for who I will be
researching and why. I will also think about my strengths
and how my previous projects have assisted me in terms
of building skills that will benefit my FMP. On the contrary
I will think about my weaknesses that I have noticed
during my time at college and possible ways I could
improve or how I could steer away from certain sectors of
work which I am not ask skilled in so that I will produce
the best work possible by my standards.
3 Pre-production As I begin my research, I will start by creating a survey
that will be sent to my peers and people who fit the target
audience I have in mind for my brand. The survey will
consist of questions that relate to the components of my
brand and the makeup industry as whole. I will ask
question such as “How do you think the beauty industry
could improve?”, this is because I intend on my brand to
be fresh an innovative in being inclusive to all and so all
answers I receive from this question, I will consider and
reflect into my production. Once I am satisfied with the
number of responses from the survey, I will evaluate the
results from each question into my research document
and consider how the results will affect the outcome of
my products so that I can satisfy my target audience.
4 Pre-production For the fourth week of pre-production, I will continue my
research and investigate existing products/brands that
will influence/inspire me during my FMP journey. As
previously mentioned, I am focused on researching
brands such as Glossier and Rare Beauty. Both brands fit
the same aesthetic I aspire to reflect into my own brand
and products. Therefore, I will research marketing
strategies that both brands use, product designs and
social media pages. All of these qualities are what makes
a makeup brand whole so I will ensure that I take all the
information I absorb through my research into account, so
I feel prepared when I begin production.
5 Pre-production The fifth week of pre-production will consist of problem
solving for my FMP. I am going to focus on obstacles that
I may face during production and how I will overcome
them. For example, I expect some expenses to go
towards the production of my makeup brand such as
makeup containers that I will need to photograph and edit
so that all of my work is original to me. I will tally up the
costs of makeup containers and budget so that I do not
exceed the amount I am willing to pay. I will also set up a
contingency plan so that I can avoid hitting any bumps in
the road as I am filming/shooting images, or I know what
to do if I do face them. For example, if a camera breaks
or schedules of a few actors do not align – which means I
will film separate scenes on different days. In addition to
this, I will experiment on Photoshop and create a rough
draft of how I imagine one of my products to look. This
will give me the opportunity to get familiar with editing
techniques on Photoshop that I will apply throughout
production.
6 Pre-production There are many aspects I need to consider when I begin
planning the production element of my FMP such as
locations, equipment, props etc. I will ensure that I will
consider all these features so that the image of my final
product comes together well. Additionally, I will compose
a rough storyboard of how I intend each scene of my
Proposal

brand advertisement to appear. I intend on hand drawing
my storyboard as I believe that it will be more time
efficient and also allows me to have more creative
freedom with how I want the basis of my video to look.
7 Pre-production As I reach the end of my pre-production, I will finish the
remainder of the planning/pre-production PowerPoint and
compose a shot list which contains each individual shot
that will be featured in the advertisement. The shot list will
work in partnership with the storyboard I make prior
except it will contain much more detail so that I have a
clear direction when I begin filming my advertisement.
Finally, I will clear up any remaining factors of production
such as plan B’s and a clear schedule.
8 Production Beginning my production, I am going to be focusing on
creating and editing the makeup products for my brand. I
will hopefully have created a rough draft of how I expect
my products to look so that I feel prepared going into
Photoshop to conceptualise my products. Once I have
the key products, I am happy with, I will create a WIX site
which will act as the online store for my brand. The
website will consist of a homepage, with an introduction
to the release of the Valentine’s Day set (which the
advertisement video will be based on), a skin page, face
page, eyes page and lips page – all genres of face-based
makeup. In addition to this, my website will include an
‘about us’ page, talking about the morals and intentions of
my makeup brand. All of this work will be done at both
college and home. Finally, in my spare time, I will set up a
social media page for my brand so that I can update it
with behind-the-scenes footage of the advertisement for
the Valentine’s Day set and shots of models for my
brand.
9 Production The second week of production will consist of filming the
advert which will take place at my own home/village. I am
going to be working with family members and friends who
have volunteered to work as crew and cast. I will be
refereeing to my storyboard and shot list as I film so I can
stay on track and feel prepared heading into each scene.
The filming should only take one day, maybe more
depending on if I need to shoot scenes on different days
because of cast member’s schedules etc. As I am filming
I will be updating the social media account of my brand
with behind the scenes images and ‘sneak peeks’ of the
product to build anticipation for the release of the makeup
set.
10 Production Once I have finished filming the trailer, I will be heading
into my third week of production. I will spend time editing
the footage at college which I expect to take slightly
longer than I would spend on other aspects of the brand
such as product design. This is because I am more
unfamiliar with PremierPro than I am with Photoshop so I
will have to get used to the editing software. I will spend
time editing the footage entirely at college as I do not
have access to PremierPro from home. With any spare
time I may have at home, I will meet up with volunteer
models for my brand and shoot some images that will be
featured on the social media page as well as the online
store. I will edit the lighting and quality of the images
using Photoshop at home.

11 Production The final week of production will be focused on finalizing
the editing of the advert clips and hopefully I should have
the end product by the end of the week. I will finalize any
editing of images I got from shooting with models. I will
finally finish updating the website and have an online
store up and ready with all products on display along with
information of the prices, ingredients and their qualities. I
also expect having the social media page finished with a
minimum of 20 posts, ready for customers to view.
12 Evaluation I will spend the first week of evaluation asking my peers
and tutors for feedback on my production work. I will
import this feedback onto an evaluation PowerPoint
where I will take notice of my strengths and weaknesses
from the point of view from my peers and I will not
whether I agree or disagree and why.
13 Evaluation I will begin to self-reflect on my work and note what went
well and what did not throughout the pre-production
stages of my FMP such as context, research and
planning.
14 Evaluation The third week of my evaluation will be focused on
evaluating the production process of my FMP. I will
analyse the decisions made throughout this project which
impacted the project development and outcome of all of
my efforts.
15 Evaluation The final week of my evaluation will identify what I would
do differently in the future, and I will identify ways I could
develop my skills so that I can succeed at university and
a career in media. I will scrape together and edit any final
elements of my project which I may have neglected
slightly so that it is ready to be presented to my audience.
