2. Filtration
• We used filtration to separate the sulfur
from the sodium chloride
• We put a coffee filter into a funnel to act as
a filter.

3. Evaporation
• We placed the filtrate under an alcohol
burner and evaporated the water.
• we were left with only sodium chloride left.

4. Distillation
• distillation is physical separation technique
used to separate liquids based on boiling
points.

5. Pure substances
• A pure substance is a either an element or
a compound with the same physical
properties no matter what the sample size
is.
• A compound has a fixed composition.

6. Mixtures
• A mixture is a combination of two or more
substances that are not chemically united.
• No fixed composition

7. Element
• An element is a pure chemical substance
made up of the same atom throughout.
• An element will have the same physical
properties no matter what the size is.

8. Compounds
• A compounds is a pure chemical substance
made up of two or more chemical
elements.
• Has a fixed composition and the same
physical properties no matter what the
sample size is.
