Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) provide reliable,
redundant power to single-power corded equipment. The ATS unit has dual input power cords supplying power to
the connected load. If the primary power source becomes unavailable the ATS unit will source power from the
secondary source without interrupting critical loads.
Auto Transfer Switch units are single-phase and are horizontally mounted with 3-meter power cords.

Morning Ladies and Gentlemen I would like to welcome you to the Panduit session and thank you for taking the time to learn about what we do. My name is Nabil and I am responsible for Panduit’s channel partners in the region. As we only have 60 minutes I have the objective of explaining Panduit and the three big trends that are effecting data centers today. I have included some Panduit ideas which you might not have come across before that you might consider in the future.
This first section I will cover who is Panduit and what we do. I would guess that some of you have never heard of Panduit and those that have either say Panduit the cabinet company or Panduit the cabling company. We are neither we are the IT Deployment company that will have a major impact in reducing your operational expenses.
Factory built pre-configured solutions are the new trend. The 55% of IT equipment failure caused by thermal issues was delaying the uptake of virtualised solutions. Cisco and EMC created the first pre-configured solutions and a company to market the Vblock in 2009 VCE. These are cabinets solutions that have Switches, servers and storage mounted in the same cabinets. This is not an easy task when dealing with the different airflow patterns and maintaining the thermal performance. This was followed by HP with their Matrix system but now known as Cloud Solutions that’s a few efforts to get it right. Cisco and Netapps joined forces and created the FlexPod solution make it easier for the channel partners to add value. Then in May 2012 IBM joined in with their Pure Systems and 2013 with Pure Flex. At the same time frame EMC want to give flexibility in design to its channel and launched VSPex The point to note is every one is following the trend and this year is its fifth year. It is becoming so pervasive that even IT distributors are creating their own solutions Comstor has launched the X-pod based on Cisco switches and servers and XIO resilient storage. If you purchase a Vblock it is delivered in Panduit cabinetry and cabling solutions. We have 24 pre-configured reference deployments on EMC Select for Vspex’s.
Specific port to port labeling based on the full architecture the twist and tell labels means you can always read the labels. They have near end and far end information and as the cables are loomed once one connection is made the others are intuitive.
Panduit does not include power supplies because different countries and clients have different requirements. Panduit has single phase, 3 phase, vertical mount, horizontal mount, dumb, metered, snmp managed, per strip power on/off, per port power on/off. So for preconfigured we recommend but the client chooses.
Basic power outlet units: Provide power distribution from a single input to multiple receptacles.
Basic with a local monitor: Provide the user a local snap shot in real time of the power consumption being used.
Networked: Provides access to power consumption data using a Web-based GUI that allows global network access to real-time power information to improve data center energy efficiency and reduce operating costs through analysis of power usage and trends.
Networked and Environmental: Measures in-cabinet temperature/humidity and provides alerts to prevent environmental factors that can cause equipment to overheat or malfunction.
You want to know are these solutions proven. IDC Research performed case studies of 5 VCE customers these were the first in the market so most experienced clients.
Important for Infrastructure are 83% reliable ( not suffering the 55% equipment failure) and significantly lower OPEX.
The new Nexus 9000 series has the required Data centre airflow of front to back and therefore deployment of the cables needs to avoid blocking this airflow is shown in this 600mm cabinet. Panduit offers two preconfigured kits parallel optics version for clients who have made a start in deploying MPO trunk assemblies or a LC deployment for clients who wish to delay the parallel optics deployment and use their existing LC trunks. (there is a caveat here on distance we will look at in services section) Getting all the parts under one part number saves missing pieces, saves having to manage several suppliers and is not left to luck as Panduit has thermally tested the deployment with the physical infrastructure less than 5% of any Data Centre deployment removing any risk is a small price to pay for long term gains of reliability and resilience.
This is an example of the leaf deploy and notice the switches are center of the cabinet not the traditional Tor deployment. This means the cable lengths over all are shorter , less lengths to support so easier to maintain and support.
Another example of leaf deployment with MoC
Cisco announced their new ACI 9000 range of switches which require 40 gig support in November 2013. To enable end user clients deploy 40gig simply and cheaply they invented a new Bidirectional transceiver BIDI. This uses old 10 gig LC patch cords to support 40 gigs. The issue is the fibres capability in supporting the distances. You will find this distance limitation table in the Panduit deployment application white paper available from the Cisco web site or the Panduit web site. Assessment is needed to ensure the fibre lengths conform to the limitations.
Where a client has an MPO parallel optics trunk deployment how do you get the BiDi LC connectivity you can use a hydra cable shown with one MPO connector and 6 LC duplex connections for the Bidi transceivers
Its also a useful solution where you receive a switch with a MPO 40gig port and you want to hook it into the LC trunk
Here you use a harness of 1 MPO connector to 4 duplex LC connectors giving you the 40 gig support.
Another cautionary note when reusing traditional deployment locations to provision the new solution then power and cooling has to be assessed for the new load.
Any one requiring assistance Panduit has already provided these assessment services for Cisco’s Beta test sites and is experienced in the Nexus 9000 deployments
