Finding The Right College Major

  1. 1. Finding The Right College Major By Patrick Capriola
  2. 2. Explore Majors • Your first major more than likely won’t be your last. • Finding the right major takes time and experimenting to figure out what’ll work best for you. • It’s best not rush this process either. • A good tactic is prevent yourself from switching majors several times by declaring “undecided” and exploring a few different majors early on. • Most schools offer programs to let students explore majors and decide their junior year.
  3. 3. The Easiest Path Isn't Always The Best
  4. 4. • Having natural skills isn't a bad thing, but it shouldn't determine your choice of major. • At first it could seem like perfect sense, but boredom can set in studying something that you know in and out. Sometimes turning a fun pastime into work, will become just that- work. • Having an open mind to other majors that that are of interest to you can be more fulfilling and more challenging.
  5. 5. Debt • Being practical about the loans you’ll have to take out for school. • “Don’t bite off more than you can chew” • You don’t want to find yourself in a position that has it so you can’t pay your loans because of the major you took. • Finding a career that will land you in a financially stable situation is something to consider.
  6. 6. Long Term Planning • Consider major into life plan. • Your career should fit into your own lifestyle, not the other way around • An art major might be what your interests are, but you might not find the financial security or travel that you want in it. • Sticking to a major to be an art teacher can offer a salary and vacation time meaning you will have the ability to travel.
  7. 7. –Patrick Capriola ! Choosing your major is a very exciting decision to make, and it shouldn't be taken lightly.Take your time and consider all of the tangibles that go into finding the proper major.
